TE 31 Dodge truck

Recommended Posts

Does the Model TE 31 indicate a 1939 1.5 ton truck? It has 10,000 gross weight. It has dual wheels on back with 9 foot flat bed. Would this have 251?

I wonder if it would be possible to scrap the 20" wheels and just put on ordinary 15 or 16". I don't know if that would make it too goofy looking.

Am looking at this truck. No purchase yet.

TE-31 is a 1939 1 1/2 ton

No you can't swap to smaller wheels unless you swap the axles, as the drums on a TE-31 are huge and a 16" rim is not likely to fit over them properly. Not to mention that the rest of the truck is designed to work with those rims, and with smaller tires you are unlikely to get over 20MPH.

If you want a 1939 and 16" rims, go buy a TC, TD-15, TD-20 or TD-21 and save yourself a lot of hassle.

Or swap the TE body onto a Dakota chassis or something, just be aware the larger 1 1/2 ton fenders will make the truck look a little odd with the small tires. You will end up with a better looking swap if you used everything but the fenders and running boards from the TE and used 1/2 ton to 1 ton parts in their place.
