mfccwhite Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Hello. I am the proud new owner of a 1947 Plymouth special deluxe. She needs work and I am going to rewire the electrical system first. After reading forums on electrical systems, I have decided to keep the 6 volt system. Here is my question. Where can I locate the harness, cables, etc. Thank-you for your help. Mike Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Check the vendors' section on this web site. I believe it's under Links Directory. Rhode Island Wire sells entire harnesses and wire by the piece. A lot of guys have used them. Brillman in Virginia is another. They're all listed, I think. Quote

aero3113 Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Its crazy how many new members we have seen in the last couple of weeks. Welcome to all, you have found the holy grail of old Mopar info . P.S. don't forget to fill out your profiles and add a pic of your rides Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 I would like to suggest that new people make sure you post your location because we seem to be everywhere. Help could be closer than you think. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Hello, and welcome. You can add some basic info thru "User C P" (control panel). Or can put something in the signature spot at the bottom. Two valuable tools for enjoying and working on your car are the factory Repair Manual and Parts Manual. Both can be found on ebay in either reprint form or original books. Just need to look. Parts Manual at the top.....I like the shop book on the right best, but the other will work also. The Chiltons and Motors manuals contain a lot of info. I just watched on ebay for a while and got a decent price for the Motors book. There are usually some Owners Manuals on the 'bay....some at reasonable prices. Quote
alan32433 Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 With the wiring job in front of you, DON"T be tempted to purchase the oversized laminated wiring diagram from classiccarwiring.com! It seemed like an excellent idea so I purchased one when I was doing my wiring. The color laminated diagram looks really nice but had HUGE errors. I contacted the seller and specifically listed the problems I found, and there were several. They never even responded to my email. I suppose once they have your money, they are looking for other paying customers and not worried about fixing their diagrams. I suggest as others on the forum have suggested. Print an original wiring diagram and enlarge it. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Here's a P15 wiring diagram taken from the repair manual. Quote
maine48ply Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Mike, I am in the process of rewiring my '48 special deluxe. I have decided to go the 1 wire at a time route. So far so good. Removing the fender has been a huge help. Its also allowed me to get at other stuff that needs getting at. The wiring diagram in the repair manual for the P-15 doesn't have the wire guages listed. If you turn the page, they are there for the next model number. Good Luck. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Keep in mind not all P15s are wired the same. There were some changes along the way so there is actually an early and a late wiring harness. But I've never seen 2 different diagrams. Quote
Tom Skinner Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Mopar Enthusiasts, Alan 32433 is correct. Those Colored Schematics are backwards. I uncovered an error while re-wiring my Transmission Harness using a RIWire Diagraham and my Service Manual. They had the + and - backward on the Coil from the Transmission Relay Switch. Thats a quick way to eat a $49 Ignition Coil, not to mention other "snafoos" I found. That Ebay Chart is only good for a Beer Coaster/Place Mat for a Sandwich. By the way a special Thanks goes out to Alan and Frank M. for helping me run down my Electrical problem 2 weeks ago. Tom Skinner Huntersville, NC Quote
