I know I have seen threads on here before regarding rear diff swaps, but here is one more...

Can anyone tell me a bolt in ...no modification diff swap for my 54 C-1, I thought I read on here that a dakota is a straight up swap, but can anyone confirm, or tell me what else specifically will fit, Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Al

Most of the swaps will require some modification to the spring perches so bolt on is not quite in the picture, but for donors, ford Ranger explorer, Mopar B bodies (chargers satelites) Jeep Cherokee (not grand, look for 2 wheel drive) and Dakotas are good but you need to find and early one with 5 bolt wheels (most 4wd are 6 and all later ones are 6) 60's to 70's mustangs. If you can find a incoln Versailes in a jusk yard thy will have disc brakes as will some of the newer explorers. Can't go to new with the explorer as you will run into coil springs and independent suspension.

If you go to carnut, com he has a chart posted with axle widths and gear ratios and lug patterns. I think it in his technical or specification area. Ther are some likely GM donors also but then the lugs don;t match up.

What ever you do you need to make modifications to the driveshaft to accomodate the different uJoints.

I used a 3:21 out of a 73 dodge 1/2 ton. Used my original drive shaft with no change to u joint. Had to use spring mounts off my 53 truck as they were narrower and in about an inch or so.

Do you know if the rear end you used from the 1996 Cherokee was a Spicer or Chrysler? What is the shape of the rear end cover? The guy at the local salvage yard told me that there are two types used. (91-96 Spicer) (91-01 Chrysler)
