Thomba48 Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 I am in the need for a fuel tank sender for my Plymouth business coupe. Do you know of anyone providing repro versions? Anyone in the possesion of an NOS version? Thanks Quote

P-12 Tommy Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 I've got an adjustable single wire sending unit I got from Yogi's Auto Parts by mistake. I ordered a two wire. I never returned it thinking somebody here might need one eventually. Tom Quote

Norm's Coupe Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 what do you do with the 6v sending unit when you switch the car to 12v..??will it still work or do you need another type? bill It will still work as long as you are using the same dash gauge. Quote
james curl Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 You will need a 12 to 6 volt reducer installed at the gauge. You can buy them from Speedway, just look for a Runtz reducer. They are listed for $17.99 each in the latest Catalogue on page 120,upper right side. Quote

Do the 50-54 units have a black face and white #s? Curious minds would like to know.... Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 What year did Chrysler change from a two wire to a one wire sender? 1948 or 1949? Tom Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 I think it was changed with the second series 49's. Quote

I've bought a number of things from Roberts without too much trouble, but I did buy a sender from him that has never worked right. I tried new wires, running a ground wire, I even sent it back to him asking them to check it out. He sent me back the same unit with a couple of extra washers telling me that the screws THEY SENT WITH THE UNIT were going down too far. They say that is what caused the brass housings in the unit to spin when trying to tighten the screws. SO, I try to get them tightened without having everything turn. I think the gauge read right for 2 days. That's why I'm thinking about a 1 wire unit. If I could put The face on mine in, It should work with the unit I got from Yogi's, which was supposed to be for my car, but is a 1 wire setup. Wayne P. Quote
jimainnj Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 I'm on the second unit from Robert's and I don't think its working right yet, and I know the wire's are good and the gauge was replaced because that was broken in the box I sent to "R ". That a story on an older post by me. good luck. Quote

P-12 Tommy Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 I got the same adjustable one wire sender that's in Tod Fitch's last post. You need it. Let me know. Tom Quote
RobertKB Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 My 1938 Chrysler has the original one wire fuel sending unit. Not sure when they went to the two wire unit but I think it was a problem so they switched back to the one wire unit around 1950. My '48 has the two wire unit but my '53 has the one wire. Go figure! aero3113 Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 I got this single wire sending unit from JC Whitney and modified it to work. It works great. I forget the part #. There is also a link on how to modify it forgot what that is also, I did mine a little different from the link. Im sure someone here knows what link I am talking about. Quote
