Plymouthy Adams Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 wrong car..Burt had the 55 in the movie.. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Don't know the production numbers off hand. Would have to look it up in the books. But.........how old is that guy now. If that car is sitting in mud up to the axles, I doubt there will be enough left of it when it's time to bury him. I looked at a 55 Olds 2 door hardtop before buying my coupe. The woman only wanted $500 for it. Body looked great until you opened the door. The underside was almost completely gone. That one was also buried up to the axles in mud. Would need a crane to get it out of the mud. Quote
spartanbilly Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 I believe that triple carburetor option was called "J2" and to be coupled with a standard transmission on an Oldsmobile 98 would have been rare indeed. From what I have read, the J2 option was rather trouble prone as it was commonly ordered on "loaded" cars by older people. Since they seldom put their foot to the floorboard, the front and rear carbs were seldom utilized (progressive linkage) and would gum up from lack of use. Don't know if this was true or not, just read it in some Oldsmobile history book. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 I went over to see the guy that I bought my 48 Plymouth from last night and he could not wait to show me the car his grandson just bought. (Sorry I did not have my camera with me) It is a 1942 Oldsmobile, now that has to be a rare car. Dennis:eek: This car looks like it's in about the same condition. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Bill what a cool car that was. Ashame he didnt park it in a barn instead of letting it rot outdoors. Quote
Normspeed Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 I recall seeing just one car like that 57, back around 1966. A guy came into the little town where I was working in a gas station, he was flat broke and needed some gas money. A kid I worked with had an olds and he worked a deal where he got the tri power setup, and he installed the single carb and manifold off his car, and gave the guy a few bucks. Unfortunately my buddy wrecked his car shortly after the swap so it went to the junkyard. Quote
