boxer_inv Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Hi - took 'Dorothy' up to a small car show in Atherton today, lovely little town about an hour drive up a winding and steep range from Cairns. Good turnout for the show and some cars not seen previously, which is always good. Mopar was quite well represented - mostly 60's & 70's Chryslers (Valiants etc). Of course, all of the usual corvettes and trans-ams... Most of the cars were 'muscle' or 'hot rod' or 'custom' but there were a few stock amongst them all, which were drawing as much attention as the 'flashy' ones - kinda cool... Had some nice comments about Dorothy too, always nice... Thanks - Rob. Quote
boxer_inv Posted October 25, 2009 Author Report Posted October 25, 2009 More cars from the show... Lovely 1939 Buick. 'Dorothy' was the only 40's car there. Quote

Don Coatney Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 That Buick looks great. Is it air conditioned? That engine was called a "Fireball Eight" here in the states. Quote
greg g Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 I think the Dyna flash tag was available here when the egine was connected tothe Dyna flow trans. I have seen both. Like the MM truck was that a stock engine of something later. Dorothy looks wel turned out. Quote

Niel Hoback Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 I love that Buick, but Dorothy is really a beauty! Quote
Normspeed Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Dorothy is immaculate. I love that hood! Quote

Dynaflash name was used from 1938 to 1940 and replaced by Fireball for 1941, a name used to the end of the straight 8 in 1953. That 1939 Buick has an Australian Holden-built body. The section behind the rear door is longer than in North America with a larger trunk. Bill Vancouver, BC Quote
boxer_inv Posted October 27, 2009 Author Report Posted October 27, 2009 Thanks - as always - for the information Bill - you're incredible with what you know and/or have access to! That 39' Buick was very nice - couldn't find the owner near the car, but I spent some time just going around each side and corner of it...lovely. Was still under some restoration I think - kinda like Dorothy - it wasn't perfect but that was appealing in its own right. Thanks all for the kind words about Dorothy too , sometimes I think that she's too 'imperfect' to be at a show, compared to some of the other fully restored cars there, but then I remind myself how fortunate I am to have inherited a car in such good condition that I don't have to do much to her to enjoy:) Family and I enjoyed a good day trip out in the country - Dorothy ran really strong up the range (this road has 140+ corners in 20km with a steep gradient) and cruised at around 50-60 most of the day. Ran fairly hot at times (195+) but ambient temp outside was about 29C. Quote
