Dan Babb Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 On the top of the cyliner head, there are some numbers. The first set of numbers look they are screwed on..but I could be wrong. 12 28 54 is the first set. It's on the top...just in front of the coil bracket on the driver side of the motor. Is that a production date or something else? Quote
desoto1939 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 The tag is the production date. The part number is cast into the head rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com Quote
Dan Babb Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 Thanks for the confirmation. I guess I have a late 1954 engine in my 1952 Truck. I'll see if I can read the casting number on the block to confirm the engine type. Quote
greg g Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Look above the generator, the engine number is stamped into the flat part of the casting just below the head. Quote
oldmopar Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Just to add to the confusion my truck has 6-4 K On the tag on the head do not see another number on the head. But my is a bit of a puzzle no #'s on the pad for the engine number and no casting number that make sense. For now I am going with a suggestion from the car side that it maybe a rebuilders block. I did find what I think is a part # 1484929 Quote
Dan Babb Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 Found the engine code. Looks like T306 1235582_ (can't read the last number). Found a link in a previous post...looks like the engine is the 218ci with 23" head from a 51-53 truck. Not sure why the head has a late 54 date on it..I guess it was changed at some point. The number toward the back of the head looks like 181882. Does that number tell you anything? Quote
