After a year and a half I am finally getting my B1B back together. The place I get flat glass made is very reasonable price-wise, and have done great work for me in the past, but do not have any old automotive patterns to go by, thus work off what is brought to them for a pattern. The only glass that was missing when I bought the truck was the rear window, thus I have no suitable pattern to take to the glass shop. Can someone either tell me the fitment needed for the glass to work off a tracing of the opening, such as the hole size, larger, smaller, ect., or does anyone have a rear glass currently out that they would be willing to trace on a piece of paper that could be folded up and mailed to me so that I will have the pattern. I will be glad to pay postage.

Also, has anyone removed the wing vents from the 5 window cab and done full windows without the wings on their truck? Looking inside the door it looks as though the same door was probably used for both applications, as there is an extra hole for a third rubber bumper, and the tabs that are in place between the wing and window appear to be such that they would be easily removed. The issue I am most concerned with is if the existing window regulator would also accomodate a full window without alterations, or substantial "inventitive" measures having to be taken. I am not sure I would delete the wing vents anyway, but have been kicking it around for a while, and am interested in knowing if anyone has done it.

Thanks

I needed a rear quarter window for my coupe back in 95 when I bought it. Called a local auto glass shop to see if they could make one. Said, they could do it if I brought the car, and then they could make one. Or........they would have to charge me for two trips to the house to make it. One to make the pattern, then a return visit to install the glass once made. Was going to do that, but found a local shop with the old patterns much cheaper. So........if no one can help you, you might give the local glass shops a shot.

I don't have a pattern for you but I would think if you had a pattern of the opening, and they can see and measure the rubber molding that will hold it in, than they can figure out how to cut the glass.

As for changing the glass in the doors... yes it can be done. However you will need the proper front track. I converted a door from solid rollup style to a vent window style so I know it's also possible to go the other way. You can take out the front track and cut out the tab that it attaches to at the top. Then you will need the proper front track to put back in to the front of the door. The holes should be there already, but you will need a different track. As far as I could tell the regulators are the same, but the lower glass bracket is different.

Here's the rool up window and front track for a vent window door.

And here's the rool up window and front track for one without the vent window.

Joel,

I just measured a spare glass I have. It's a rectangle measuring exactly 26" by 9 15/16" with 2" radiused corners. Glass is 3/16" thick. Save the postage and make your own pattern from these measurements or ......I'll send you this glass for $25.

Merle, Reg, Jerry, and Norm, thanks for your help, and willingness to get me a pattern. I am getting the glass from Reg.

Merle, thanks for the detailed pictures. They certainly lay it out plain. I called Vintage PowerWagon and they have a glass run for a full window that from his description is a couple of inches longer than a wing vent setup (16" I believe), and that has no tabs, which I guess may be the one in your full window pic. I am still not sure what I am going to do, but probably just go back with the wings, as I have all the stuff to do it.

Thanks again, Joel
