Inner Fender Seals

The recent post about the inner fender extensions reminded me of something I still need to figure out...

I'm looking something that can be used for the dust seals between the inner extension/splash shield and the floor boards. They appeared to be a cloth-covered foam rubber material, 1/2" in diameter, that filled the gap and prevented squeaks between the sheet metal parts. They were held in place with steel split rivets. Did you guys find anything that worked good?

I couldn't find any exact replacement. In fact I went to a place in Minneapolis who manufactures that stuff and they said they were out of production.

So I went to the local hardware store and bought some weather stripping that looked like what I was looking for. It was vinyl instead of fabric and it was tan instead of black. Because it looked like it would do the job and no one could see it, I used the stuff. I attached it with pop rivets.

I used this stuff.

I got it from Roberts (I think) along with some of this stuff.

I thought that the all rubber stuff would live longer if it were to get wet so that's what I used. I also attached it with pop rivets.

I have two completely restored, didn't use them, and in excellent condition. Sandblasted, epoxy primer, gloss black paint. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks, Jeff

Thanks for the help guys. I never thought of this seal as windlace...but then again, I haven't done much interior work yet so windlace hasn't been in my bag of tricks yet.

I found some of the windlace material at VPW, and they sell it by the foot, so got just the right amount. I'll be attaching it with pop rivets like you guys did, which is far better and easier than with them split rivets.
