Jim Yergin Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 I had to change the oil in my p15 before heading to S dakota this past weekend as I had about 2k miles on it already. Now put about 600 miles on traveling to aberdeen s dakota and back. First long distance trip in the old car without a group of other old cars. Little nervous but made it fine. About 1/2 way home it seems like it was slightly overcharging. Otherwise perfect. Ed, I have been told that overcharging can be a problem with a generator on a long trip. Was told that when that happens I should periodically turn the headlights on to create a heavier load and thereby regulate the amount of charge. Can anyone confirm what I was told? Jim Yergin Quote

Young Ed Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Jim I can't confirm it but I can kinda back it up. Generator was fine the entire time there with the radio on. On the way home the ipod ran out of battery(dang forgot to charge it while we were there) and after a while it when I noticed the over charging. Seems to go away for a bit after we stopped to eat and then again shortly after we got closer to the cities and could actually tune in an AM station. Quote

Young Ed Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 740 the true oldies channel. I love it but it only broadcasts during daylight. Afterwards I get some other station with even older oldies(like 1940s) out of toronto. Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Just turned 28,000 miles in 38 months. Quote

Good old Toronto Ontario, tons of radio stations in that town, heck Ed, it must be 800 mile from the Twin Cities straight as the crow flies, thats good night reception. I uised to get WLS from Chicago in Winnipeg at night, was very clear too. Ed , have you got any recent pics of Spot that you can post....Fred ps any of under the hood, not sure I have seen your engine pics before....Fred Quote

Young Ed Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Here's my engine after I installed it. Sadly after 10k miles it doesn't look nearly this nice! Quote
clubcoupe Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 It's the same way here. I live about 4-5 miles off the main road and down a shared single lane road. The first day I put my 52 Pontiac on the road (a little over 4 years ago), I passed a truck that had been lifted and had those big tires on it and it kicked a rock up and put a star crack in my passenger side windshield. Same exact thing happened again about 3 months ago on my 1964 Pontiac. On top of that, the road is in very bad shape, lots of pot holes, dust, etc... I keep my 52 parked out back under a car port away from the road because the dust was so heavy. I have put over 40k miles on that car - it's a Flathead inline 8 car. My road has about the same amount of traffic on it, if not more since there's an overlook past my house that overlooks the mountains and river. Dave Quote

Dave Hi Dave, and welcome to the flat head forum, my gravel road is at least nice and wide, my house and garage are 180 feet form the road, usually never get rocks flying from other cars, but gotta be careful. Sounds like you havea lot of fun with your cars. Can you post some pics of your cars......Fred Quote
