moparvern Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 I am trying to figure out if the trans is the semi automatic or the three speed. I called Andy Bernbaum and he was pretty rude to me. He told me to figure it out and call him back to order the parts. We have the cover off and my mechanic says it looks like it has two gears with high and low range. another guy says it is not an overdrive and a third says it is a three speed. I am just the dummy trying to get it running. I have never driven one. Any help so I can get the right parts. It has a clutch and the converter so I do know that much. Also does anybody have a part number for the clutch disk and pressure plate from say Napa or? Thank You for the help! Quote
greg g Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Does it have one or more can shaped assemblies on the pass side??? Look through the recent posts, there is a post from Pat S with pictured of the semi auto. Use the search button and search by Pat's screen name. Also check the imperial club web site under repairs for a very good section on the M4 if stock, semi auto. Also If after your first experience with His Magificence, Andrew the lord high grump of MOPAR you chose to do business with him, be forwarned, even when you do figure it out the parts he sends you very well may be incorrect anyway. moparvern Posted August 5, 2009 Author Report Posted August 5, 2009 (edited) In the post simplematic vs tip toe it is NOT the trans pictured in blue. It has one solonoid on the passenger side and a vacuum electric thingamabob too. It looks just like the one I found pictured in a post that the picture was titled V fluidrive It is in a 1941 Chrysler royal. I thought it was a 1942. I told you I was a dummy! greg g Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Well, I wonder if its a 3 speed with OD??? can you post a picture of yours?? Quote
PatS.... Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 (edited) This is a 1948 M5. This is a 1949 standard 3 speed transmission. A regular 3 speed has first gear towards you and down, an M5 or M6 won't have a gear there at all. This is a 1942/42 M4 Vacamatic Nothing is as confusing as 40's and 50's Chrysler Fluid Drive. Sounds to me you have the M4 Edited August 5, 2009 by PatS.... Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Here are some pic's of a early 42 trans I just rebuilt for a customer-should be like yours if it isn't a piston type shift. Bob Quote
