James I have a siezed water pump in my junque box. I will check to see if the pulley is still attached, It from a 56 plymouth engine.

And on the other board as a follow up to the trash can lid fan shroud, there was a post where a fellow made a fiberglass one in the same fashion as you see the custom speaker surrounds being made. He made a ply wood buck the shape of the radiator core, and cut a plywood circle a bit bigger then the fan, fixed them together then stretched fabric over the two and then built up fiberglass mat and resin over it. When it was cured he sanded it smooth, painted it and then cut it in half to facilitate mounting.

James, after checking this morning, I found I am using the narrow belt set up on my car.

I do remember using a narrow belt with the wide pullys some years back. Which by virtue of sitting lower in the grove will turn the pulley a bit faster.

claybill,

The 5 3/8" (slightly less) does fit a water pump. First pictures shows the 5 3/8" beside a 6 1/8" like you mentioned. Second one shows the two pulleys sitting on a couple of spare water pumps I have. Not a lot of clearance with the smaller one but certainly enough to operate safely. Third ones shows two 5 3/8" inch pulleys together, one for the wider belt and the other for the narrow belt.

I don't have a spare 5.25" thin, but for reference:

my '51 motor has the 5.25" thin that you're looking for.

the '53 Plymouth motor has a 6.50" thin

the '55 Dodge motor has a 6.25" thin

all measurements at the groove.

trying to makes sense of this...why so many different size pulleys for a simple water pump....??

it would increase the rpm of the pump a little. AND it would require a different size fan belt.

what else?

Hi Guys,

I have been in and out as it is Sondra's Vacation. We have been a day at home then a few days away for three weeks. I will be back in to a normal pattern soon.

I will contact those of you that have spares in a few days.

The smaller pulley must spin the pump faster. The one one mine is the larger 6.x" version and I am hoping that the 5.x inch version will help with the low rpm cooling.

Talk in a few days...

James
