Hey All, I am going to make next years, 2010, Route 66 Fun Run; first weekend in May. Hope many of you can try to make one the many Route 66 Cruises/Parties/Events next year. We aren't getting any younger. Here are some great Route 66 musical variations I found on YouTube, Best to all, Charlie in Hot-as-Hell-azona

Charlie...I have attended the Arizona Route 66 Fun Run for the past two years and in my opinion, it's okay. I started going to it because I had always wanted to drive an old car on the original U.S. 66. What I also wanted to do is drive among the other original classic cars that I thought would be on there, but what I found were the usual Route 66 stereotyped Corvettes (new and old), souped up and hot rodded '55-57 Chevys, '55-57 T-Birds and even newer cars. Talk about a let down. Also, the muscle cars have made their way to the road, as well. I mean, you really have to search for the stock classics on the fun run. To me, Route 66 has become commercialized and is only represented by Corvettes, Chevys and T-Birds, which can be seen on any flyer or announcement of a Route 66 event. So, instead of getting stuck driving in between a 55-57 hot rod Chevy and a Corvette, I just fall behind the group and cruise the road, taking my time. So what if I miss some cheesy "poodle skirt and leather jacket sock hop," it's the road that is what it's all about. I hope you do make it out next year because we need some more Mopar representation.

I have enjoyed the stretches of Rt. 66 that I have traveled in my P15 the past few years. I have to agree, though, that the hyped-up Fun Runs, etc., are not what Rt. 66 is about. It is a lot more fun, IMHO, to just go for a drive and take a little time to chat with some of the people along the route that live Rt. 66 every day.

I promised Melba in Galena KS that I'd stop for a burger the next time I'm through town. Diner was closed when we drove through due to a small electrical fire the day before. Had a nice chat w/ the proprietor of Afton Station while he did a little work on the Citroen he's restoring.

Hey, I would like to know more about the Fun Run. When will it be going through California. Our POC region made a route 66 run a few years ago, from Riverside California to Laughton, Nevada. From Riverside Ca. to the Laughton Nev turn off, we only used 12 miles of freeway. it was great fun. Tony C
