adam_knox Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Anyone in the Midwest gonna make a trip up to Iola this weekend? I'm planning on going Friday. Was hoping to take the car, but looks like I'd have to drive through a chance of showers. While I wouldn't mind a cool run through a sprinkler when I'm at Iola, I don't really wanna be wet when I first get there! Anyways, if any one wants to meet up for a burger or something at the tower lemme know! BTW-If someone is looking for something let me know. Any time I'm at a booth I'm digging through the Mopar stuff anyways. I rarely come across much for my car, so its fun having a scavenger hunt list! Usually on an endless hunt for '28 Dodge parts each year as well. Quote

But basically its a car show, auction, car corral, and huge swap meet. Here's the link: http://www.iolaoldcarshow.com/index.asp They have a large selection of general classic vehicles for show, then about 50 cars for a specific theme, and then maybe 70 cars that are high end and parked around a building. The car corral is cool too, since there is tons to look at and they are all for sale. The auction I've never been to, but there was a 49 Plymouth convertible that didn't sell and wound up in the car corral that same day. I woulda bought it, but I didn't get papers from the bank to really lay down a deposit, and they mysteriously painted it like two days prior...Imagine a car wash. But instead of spraying your car down with water, it hosed it with paint...Glad I waited! Quote
desoto1939 Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 For you guys that can not attend Hershey inthe fall. Lets figure around 8-10 Thousand vendors and over 2000 cars to be judged. There are over four main fields and it takes you at least one day just to walk one field. It is Meca of the east. I have been going for over 20 years. When it started they only had enought vendor to fill the inside of the footbal stadium and not it has grown to be a super giant of a show. Also the prices are high but that is what you get when some of the guys are traveling in Prevost Buses that cost over a million and then pulling trailers with their fully restored V16Packards, Caddys etc and then they paid someone to do the full restoration and do not even know anything about their cars. Us drivers have to know so much more. i do like the show cars dont get me wrong but I like the drivers better. rich h Quote

adam_knox Posted July 12, 2009 Author Report Posted July 12, 2009 I hit the jackpot at Iola this year! Got tons of stuff. The only thing on my list I didn't get was a rear wheel drum puller. Saw one for 80 bucks, but wasn't that comfortable spending that much on a tool I've never used and can't return if it doesn't work. Coolest tool I bought: Remote (by wire) push button starter for when I'm working on the car! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier than bridging a screwdriver over the starter! =) Only 2 bucks! For you Plymouth owners I saw tons of excellent condition lenses and odd parts (gauges and map light). Didn't see any 46-50 mopars...Well, I saw one I think that was for sale, but that's about it. I plan on getting my own, but in the mean time I can only imagine what my rear wheel cylinders look like! Still got my new ones still in the wrapper sitting on my toolbox. I wonder if the P15 is the one I saw for sale... Thanks for the first hand experience with the Nash. I hate to promote an exaggerated notion on a car. The only reason I said they were prone to rust is the big book of classic cars listed rusting as one of the cons for owning the Nash Rambler convertible. Lois didn't have a Met, I think they started making those in '54. Quote
