Bill Ford Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 What kind of mat went in trunk of a P-15 sedan? How much of the area was covered? I can see that you could probably carpet the trunk but it appears a flat piece of rubber mat would not conform to the floor. What have you guys done? What about the board that goes behind the back seat, should it be the same color as the kick boards and the package deck? Getting mine back together and would like to do it right. I appreciate all your help in putting this together. You notice I just ask questions, don't have many answers. Quote
P15Mike Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Bill , I still have the original trunk mat in mine . Mine's pretty stained , but it has a plaid pattern with maybe what was some type of cloth backing ?? hope this helps ....Also i dont think they're reproduced by anyone ....yet Mike Quote
Niel Hoback Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 My 48 has a black rubber formed mat that covers almost all of the floor area. It is original. I think I remember seeing a number molded in it. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 I believe the very last p15s have the plaid one. Thats what is stock for the new 49 and 50 plymouths. Quote
RobertKB Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Here is the original trunk mat in my Dodge D25 Coupe, basically a Plymouth in Dodge clothing. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Yep, that's the right one far as I know, Robert. The plaid one could have been used in the early 49s, but I have no knowledge about that. I believe the cardboard behind the seat was black also. I think there was also a covering up on the sides of the fenders, a kind of rhino hide stuff with a horsehair backing that was glued on. Have you ever noticed the residue left on those areas.....just some of that horsehair still stuck here and there. A real pain to remove. I opted to carpet my trunk like the rest of the floors. Then made matching side boards from the same stuff as my door panels. Upholstry man made up the carpet...I did the sides. Nowhere close to original, but I like it. I wanted the trunk to look nice since I like to display some of my assorted auto related what-nots at car shows. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Robert, you could start a new trend.....blue tires to match your blue rims. Quote
RobertKB Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Robert, you could start a new trend.....blue tires to match your blue rims. Never thought of myself as a trend setter. I guess I was just lazy when I painted that rim many years ago. Other rims were painted with tires off but the spare got the cheap shot. I guess I should use a different tire as a spare as that one has got to be very old. Still holds air great and has been used on occasion. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Whatever works for you.........OK by me. Quote
radioguy7 Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 I believe the very last p15s have the plaid one. Thats what is stock for the new 49 and 50 plymouths. My 47 has a plaid one and I was told bt the original owners grandson that its the mat that was in there from new. Quote
P15Mike Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 All i can say for sure is mine IS plaid and has been there for a VERY long time . Now with that being said , that doesn't mean its original , so i do retract from my original statement above . Maybe different plants used different trunk mat's ??? I personally can't say for certain . My mat has all the correct contour's and factory cuts to fit perfectly . Heading to Carlisle in the morning so doubt if i'll have time to post a pic . I'll try and post one on sat or sun . Mike Quote
