it seems like the only time I come on the forum is when I need something. thats whats neat about the forum. when I dismantled my P20, Like a dummy I didn't take a photo of the steering wheel before taking it off. that was 8 years ago. now after restoring the wheel I go to put it on. and you guessed it . I forgot! take a look at the photos. am I missing parts? what you see is all I have. shouldn't there a spring. I don't even have nothing to fasten the horn button to.

does anyone have an exploded view of the steering wheel mounting. and a source for parts.

I think you are missing a spring...thats all I can help you with everytime I try to put mine together the horn wants to go off and keep going off regardless of weather the horn ring is pressed or not.

I will need this thread as much as you. :)

Horn center and ring on 46-48 P15.

Should work similarly..........

Probably should be a spring.

Unless that light grey piece on the left works like a spring....

does your center cap have 3 threaded holes on the underside or are there clips on the emblem mounts? It looks as though you have everything except the spring if you have the clips on the center cap. if your center cap has the threaded holes, you need to find the 3 long screws that come up from the bottom of the steering wheel and screw into the cap.

I have a wire soldered to my spring that I have hooked up to screw 83-33-44 and I don't have the contact soldered on the end of the cable assy...its around here somewhere :o.

I guess it works when the ornament touches the contact?

Here are a couple P19 and P20 items........

One note says re: the two piece type ring........on late models P19 and P20 Deluxe & Special Deluxe, the

hub cup is pressed on (no screws used). The

directional signal switch is installed in place of the hub cup.

There were also these notes:

And this note, referring back to the pages above.........

Info in the previous post came from this shop manual, which can be found

on ebay in either original or reproduction form. Reprints are maybe around

$35. They contain quite a bit of helpful info.......everyone should have

a book covering their car. (No, they don't contain Everything, but a lot

of good stuff.)

I had the same issue with the horn going all the time.

The issue was that the spring would make contact when I would tighten the screws.

Solution was to turn the spring a bit as the end part of the spring was exactly on the T shape and contact was made.

After that I could simply tighten the screws and had no further problems.

Thats good to know John. I still say if you can't tighten the screws something is wrong.

I went through this a few months ago, I replaced the wire and relay, tughtened the screws then untightened, turned the spring, I finally I put tape over the tee so the spring did not touch " no more problem " Horn blows when ring is pushed. Jim

I have a shop manual around here somewhere BobT and you are right it was the handiest thing....it is probably with the contact wire that I am missing.

I am sure that I have something just off a little bit causing a ground I will have to spend more time with it.

I would say replacement parts need to come off a donor car.......or from some

vendor who happens to have the needed pieces. I would keep watch on ebay--

activate the deal where it will automatically notify you if a certain part is listed.
