Dale Uhrich Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 does anyone know if the ring gear and pinon carrier out of a 1954 new yorker deluxe will fit a 48 b1b? If not what year and model has been used to gear higher? I wish to change the carrier only Quote

You need a Dodge /Plymouth/Chrysler/ DeSoto 6 cylinder rear end (pumpkin) up to 1952-NOT out of a Chrysler or DeSoto station wagon -they are an 8 cylinder rear end heavier and bigger case and gear set. You might also have to swap pinion yokes too. 1946-8 Chrysler Windsors used a 3.54 gear set. More common is the plymouth 3.73 ratio- easier to find. Bob Quote
Young Ed Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 You can change the side gears for the rear ends that just have the wrong spline count axles. Quote
Dale Uhrich Posted June 29, 2009 Author Report Posted June 29, 2009 If i follow you correctly this rear gear would work if i use the side gears from the existing 4.10 carrier. Quote
Young Ed Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Unless you have the heavier rear end as mentioned above. Quote
