desoto1939 Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Attached are some picture of the original MopAr Aluminum head that fors the 37 and up Chrylers and Desoto and the Big Block Dodge engines. It has the DPCD logon on the head. The unit is flat and I ran a flat bar along the edges and there look to be very straight. If anyone is look for an orginal Mopar Alum head this unit is available See the pictures. These are rare to find in this condition almost NOS or very close. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Looks more like cast iron than aluminum. I don't think they made a factory aluminum head back then. Quote
TodFitch Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Looks more like cast iron than aluminum. I don't think they made a factory aluminum head back then. Parts book for 1933 lists an aluminum head. Uses different fasteners and different spark plugs than the cast iron head. In 1933 it boosted the power by 10% (from 70 BHP to 77 BHP). Casting part number on the head pictured looks about right for something first released to production in the mid-1930s. Quote
desoto1939 Posted June 16, 2009 Author Report Posted June 16, 2009 I have verified the part number in my 1936 to 42 MAster Parts Book for the Desoto's. Yes the Chrysler and Desoto engine had 92m hp and with the Aluminum head you would increase to 100 hp. This definately is a factory head. This head can be used on all the larger Chrysler and Desoto engines and the Big Dodge that were built in Canada. This will work up until the earlyt 50 with all the L6 head engines. BobT-47P15 Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 OK......I'll take back my earlier comment. I stand corrected.....then it certainly is an aluminum head. Live and learn. Quote
Ricky Luke Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 I'd love it, but the cost of freight to Australia My 40 parts book shows 4 aluminum heads ranging from 6:1 to a huge 7.45:1 compression. It doesn't list this number so I suspect the head is a 38/39? vintage. Cheers Ricky Luke Quote
dezeldoc Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 Look at the last pic of the combustion chamber and compair it to a stock low compressiom head and you can see the differance, my steel head had a chamber about the same size after i took 75 thou off it. Quote

If I may jump in----I took 65 thou off my head and 3-5 thou of the block---do you have to run different plugs with the change?? Quote
