Dennis Hemingway Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 The P is for Plymouth & the D is for Dodge. Dennis:cool: Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 It's a Plymouth.......which makes it a P15....the model number for Plyms from 1946 thru the first 3 or 4 months of 1949. Does that help? Quote
owrecker Posted June 16, 2009 Author Report Posted June 16, 2009 oh ok i will have lots of dumb ? then i guess what is the 15 iguess i have a lot to lean TOM Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 Looks like someone's good intentions ended up going nowhere......another car taken all apart and left for the next fellow to try and restore. Hope all the missing parts are in the trunk or back seat...... Quote
1947PLEVY Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 Bob: That's the challange of it...and you don't realize what you really need until you start putting it back together..and then realize..what's really missing..then the fun looking for the parts.. God Bless Us All.. John 47Plevy Quote

greg g Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 the 15 refers to the Model number. Plymouth started in 1928 witht he model Q, in the early 30's they switched to the numerical designations. Adding a number when there was a significant change in body type, or chassis improvements, not necessarily annualy. the P15 designation lasted from 46 to early 49. Funny thing was the 49 was not a P16. MOPAR designations were p for plymouth d for dodge C for chrysler and S for deSoto. You might want to spend some time on the ALLPAR site for some good historical stuff on MOPARS. Think you will be glad you switched from chevy except for the parts chasing, chevy stuff is easy. Quote
owrecker Posted June 17, 2009 Author Report Posted June 17, 2009 yeah the good thing about chasing the parts down is that i am a truck driver and i go all over the place like TX, LA, GA, MO that should make it a little easier I hope TOM Quote
Troganin Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Is the car stored in Tonawanda? I just moved mine to Buffalo at the beginning of the summer. It looks like you have a long road ahead of you. If you need a hand feel free to shoot me a pm. Tom Quote
owrecker Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 it is in N Tonawanda i am going to pick up 2 motors for it tomorrow from the guy i bought it form if he is home TOM Quote
RobertKB Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Spare engines are always great to have, either to use or for spare parts. Collect as many parts as you can, extra if possible. They always come in handy. Quote
owrecker Posted June 19, 2009 Author Report Posted June 19, 2009 well i got 2 motors today and here are the numbers i found on the pi5*789542 * the other one is pi5*i03023i TOM Quote
RobertKB Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 According to the serial numbers both engines are from P15's and would be the right engines for your car. Congratulations on hitting the mother lode. Quote
owrecker Posted June 19, 2009 Author Report Posted June 19, 2009 i will have to totaly have to rebuild one of them and find a few parts I also got the tranies with them TOM Quote
RobertKB Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 i will have to totaly have to rebuild one of them and find a few parts I also got the tranies with them TOM Spare trannies are a plus also. With the engines, you should have most of what you need and be able to build one really good engine and have lots of spare parts. Quote
owrecker Posted June 19, 2009 Author Report Posted June 19, 2009 oh they are missing lots of parts like water pump fuel pump distributator gen starter and more with my luck TOM Quote
owrecker Posted June 19, 2009 Author Report Posted June 19, 2009 dose anyone have and books they want to sell on the motor or the car i ca buy TOM Quote
greg g Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 Repoped service manuals are availabvle from a couple sources. I think if you use the search function you will find several mentions of sources. Also swap meets will usually have folks selling either repops of original books. E bay also has them from time to time. The parts book is a good thing to have in that aside from listing prat names and numbers it also has those handy exploded view drawings. There is also a lot of information on the main page of the site that hosts this forum. If you haven't read through those entries, you should. ALLPAR is also a good reference source for information also. Quote
Charlie Olson Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 Hey Tom, since you are a long distance trucker, you can do searches on Craigs List for P15 parts in the areas to which you are traveling. For example, here in PHX, on CL, there is a P15 parts car that has no engine, but most of the outside trim pieces, for asking price of $750; it looks to be a rust bucket, but full of parts. Quote
