hkestes41 Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 I was cleaning up the garage tonight and going through some parts that were pulled off my car when I swapped the engine and transmission. This was mounted on the firewall and I'm pretty sure that it was a vacumn storage canister to give the wipers a boost. Is that right? Now for the mystery part. This was mounted under the hood, low on the firewall or on the toe board if I remember correctly. As you can see it looks to have a vacumn hose out one end and the long rod coming out of the threaded brass is a spring loaded plunger type thing. Neither the hose nor the "plunger" were attached to anything so I have no idea what it is for or what it was doing there. What the heck do I have here? Hoping someone tells me that it is an extremely rare prototype power brake booster or something and that Barrett Jackson will want to sell it for a couple hundred grand. But instead, you will probably tell me it was some early run your car on water gadget hocked by Billy Mays' Grandfather and worth about 50 cents. Quote
PatS.... Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) It's for the aftermarket windsheild washer...that's how you sprayed the water, by pumpung that plunger. Here's the business end: Edited May 31, 2009 by PatS.... Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Vacumn can looks to be off a 70's 80's Ford. Now for the awesome part----------------- The other item is- well hmmmm, how about a windshield washer pump Part # 1241068 for 1946-8 MoPar cars. Probably worth $30,000! Well maybe not but a nice find! I like it! Bob Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) I do believe the oval item is part of the Jiffy Jet windshield washer system. [url="http://"] There it is under the toe board of a 1947 Chrysler. [url="http://"] And there's the jar for the washer liquid..... [url="http://"] Edited May 31, 2009 by BobT-47P15 Quote
greg g Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Damn I was gonna say it might be the pump for a water injection system. But Maybe you can get a jar, and infuse NO2 into a fluid and then run the hose and the nozzel thing over to your carbs. Then when you need that extra boost of power, on foot to the metal and the other pump pump pump.......... The vacuum accumulator will probably give you about 6 to 10 swipes of the windshied wipers while climbing a hill. A cheap and effective way of improving vacuuum wiper operation. Quote
radioguy7 Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Cmon guys, I thought everyone know what a control head for a flux capacitor was!! Quote
aero3113 Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 (edited) Anyone a fan of Austin Powers? You guys sure that's not a pump made by the Swedes? Edited June 1, 2009 by aero3113 Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Ha! I had the same thought. Was going to say it was some kind of Victorian contraband. The kind of thing Lord So-and-So probably kept in his toiletry case. The red velvet background only adds to the impression. Quote
