Lee Exline
I thought I had already posted this here last night. Was it removed for some reason? Or did I preview and not submit? Start saving your money now! This summer a major Desoto collection will be on the auction block. The cars are mostly nice originals some are restored cars with a few parts cars and restoration projects mixed in. I knew the collector several years ago and he has passed on and his widow has recently passed and the will states that the collection must go to auction. I am going to be helping as much as I can since the bank and the auctioneers know so little about the Desoto marque. Here is a run down of the collection by memory and the banks inventory list (I will get pictures and up to date descriptions sometime soon) anything in “(notes on condition last time I saw it)” 1928 roadster (nice) 1929 sedan (nice) 1930 8-cylinder sedan (nice) 1931 coupe (nice) 1932 coupe (nice) 1933 coupe (nice) 1934 sedan (needs retored) 1935 Airflow sedan 1936 Airflow sedan 1936 Airstream coupe 1937 Coupe (needs new rubber seals but was restored) 1938 Rumble seat convertible coupe (stunner) 1939 Coupe 1940 Coupe and 4-door 1941 2-door 1942 sedan (needs restored) 1946 sedan 1947 sedan 1948 2-door 1949 coupe 1949 Woodie wagon (nice) 1950 Convertible (nice) 1950 8 passenger 1951 sedan and coupe 1952 Firedome and powermaster sedans 1953 2-door and 4-door Firedomes 1954 2-door and 4-door 1955 2-door 1955 Pink and White convertible (nice) 1956 Red and white 2-door hardtop multiple option car 1956 Blue and white convertible (nice) 1956 Sedan (super low miles) 1957 Firesweep sedans two of them (nice) 1958 Firedome 4-door hardtop (one owner nice) 1958 Mempian ambulance (nice and complete even has streacher) 1959 4-doors two of them 1960 2-door and a 4-door 1961 2-door hardtop 1 owner low mileage (nice) Other cars that are part of the collection 1924 model T 2-door (nice) 1934 Dodge ½ ton pickup (nice) 1962 Chrysler imperial sedan 1966 Chrysler pair of four doors 1967 Chrysler 300 convertible The bank wonders if they should get them all running again before the auction what do you think about someone that does not know that much getting under the hood? I suggested just cleaning them up and selling as is rather than risking damage. Sorry no dates have been set yet but I will be meeting with the auctioneer! I will try to make sure the dates do not cross with Iola, Tulsa and Hershey ETC.
eric wissing
Looks like a great line up of cars I am on the West Coast of Iowa and would venture into the dark center of the state to attend such a sale. eric
BobT-47P15
Sounds interesting to say the least. How many do you plan to buy, Lee? At times like this, I wish there was a lot more play money in my account.

1just4don
Would be worth the trip from here just to watch. What town will the auction be in AND if its a real small town,,,just general direction, miles to the right vicinity?? Just neat to know how many miles are involved AND are there any 'camping' spots any where close to said sale?? primitive even!!10X10 place to pitch a tent??? Fancy NOT required. One tree for late night pee runs appreciated!!
RobertKB
At least one Desoto for every year. I would love to buy a Desoto as I have a Plymouth, Dodge, and Chrysler. A Desoto would finish of the DPDC thing nicely. Too far away for me unless I win the lottery though. Had a '37 Desoto once but only bought it for the Overdrive tranny in it. It looks a lot better in the picture than it actually was. She was one rough old girl but I got what I paid for it making the tranny free. Guest mikeys toy
saw this on the HAMB board; man I would give BOTH my nutz and my cranbrook for a '57 firesweep
Lee Exline
Eric Wissing You are actually closer than I am! The cars were originally on a farm near Royal Iowa but have been moved to secure indoor storage in Spencer. I am not sure where the auction will be held as we are in the very early stages of planning. Bob T I will not be buying any cars unless something goes way too cheap. There are several I would love to have but no money or space to put them. I actually found the 58 Ambulance but could not afford it at the time so it has a personal connection and the 38 Cabriolet is beautiful (ruby red with tan top and interior)
52B3B108
I grew up about 40 miles SE of Spencer. I'll bet my dad probably knows the person if it's that big of a collection. I was around Royal for about 5 years in the early 90s and never caught wind of such a collection. I'll have to let him know after you post the sale info Lee. I tore up my back room last night going through a near 25 year collection of car stuff. I found a lot of stuff I forgot I had but did not find the pictures of his collection. I am going to go through my negatives tonight to try and find them. I would like to go up and take pictures again soon but the cars need the last ten years dust washed off of them. It is hard to believe that this collection could be ammassed without general kowledge but he did not want to attract attention and only listed one car when he was a member of the National Desoto Club and he started the collection when Desoto's were still in production
