47heaven Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Noticing a lot of swaying in the front and clunking in the back when making turns. Can't be shocks for they are only three years old. Was told that it may be time to replace the rubber bushings. Does anyone know how many rubber pieces are needed in the front and how many needed in the back and what these pieces are called exactly. I'm sure Robert's probably carries them, but I need to know the exact name to order them. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Darin PS: I already tried searching for any previous links to this, but couldn't come up with anything. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 8 bushings in the rear, 4 at each shackle..the forward silent blocks are probably still in great shape..for the front..check your sway bar bushings..these front suspensions are not exactly firm feeling.. you can get the rear bushings from Advance Auto ...and if you want a firmer set you can get poly graphite bushings for the Mopar A bodies... Don Coatney Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Rear spring rubber bushings are available from Espo http://www.espo.com/ I had to shorten them to make them work. However my car still grunts and groans with the new rubber parts and new springs. Just another reason I want a Hudson. Richies Hudson car made no noise when driving over rough ground. Quote
dndrodshop Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Don, Either the noise is from you or your exhaust is too quiet. Quote
47heaven Posted April 27, 2009 Author Report Posted April 27, 2009 Thanks, guys. I'll call these places today. Tim, that place you mentioned for the rear bushings...you didn't mention if they sold the sway bar bushings there as well or not. I don't know if I can get these things in time for the Arizona Route 66 Run this coming weekend. It will be about a 1000 mile round trip for me. You think the bushings can hold up, still? What's the danger of not changing the bushings...especially with the ones that go where the leaf springs are? Those are breaking up little by little. I think one is completely gone. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 (edited) have you actually checked the front sway bar bushings for excessive wear...of the four bushing..the outer ends..I have used foreign car bushings..the inner are pressed in..be a bit tough replacing without removing the rivets and replacing with bolts...then you could remove a small slice out of the back and overlay with a sheet of rubber and clamp back in place..the overlay will force the rubber closed at the slit and compress the bush to allow no slop.. this is not a 100 percent fix but should get you by while you serch for actual replacements Edited June 24, 2019 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
47heaven Posted April 30, 2009 Author Report Posted April 30, 2009 BY the way...what are the sizes of the bushings that I am looking for the sway bar and leaf springs? Quote
