greg g Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Congrats!!! Looks like a good buy, and just what you need.......Buy me a plane ticket to chicago, or other nearby airport. I'll drive it out, you fly me back. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 It's about 300 miles from me, Reg. I'd be happy to retrieve it, and keep it at my place for you. According to the seller, "You'll be the talk of your neighborhood" now. That is if they can pick it out among your other Mopars:rolleyes: Good find, Merle Quote
Johnny S Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Very nice Reg. I would say the price was right as well. The photos suggest that its pretty straight and solid. Congrats........ Quote
wldavis3 Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Congratulations! You definately hit the jack-pot! Good luck with it and have fun. Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 14, 2007 Author Report Posted January 14, 2007 Yeah. It looks like it's really original. I like the fact that original paint is still there. I might be able to preserve what's there. I wonder if it has 35,000 or 135,000 miles on it. Gee...all I have to do is fix the radio. OK Greg....But could you drive this back home instead of flying? I'm pretty sure I can get this running and I'll pack you some bag lunches. You were kidding...right? Quote
eric wissing Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 I saw that even thought about bidding, good looking find. There are probably enough members spread out across the country to help you along the way. better get the radio fixed though, the hum of just tires gets old after a few hours. I drove a Checker from Denver to Iowa and an hour into the trip I lost the radio. Congrats, Eric Quote
greg g Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Not really Kidding!!! Where do you want the suburban delivered??? Or is it Trade in Kind???? I am seriously considering bidding my "keep me off the streets job" good bye and pushing the button on collecting my retirement annuity, as the annunity would essentially multiply my current income by 1.5 times. Just waiting for them to post my profit sharing deposit for last year, then tell them it's time to blow their little popsicle stand. So if the seller will hold it till the end of Feb or the Beginning of March, or you can work a deal with Merle for temp storage, and your not in a hurry to have it in your hot little car thievin hands, we may be able to work something out. (excuse the run on sentence) Not looking forward to crossing the Continental Divide in the dead of winter, but the southern route might prevail. Would you consider funding a couple nights in Lost Wages??????? Quote
Guest Nelsons Ply Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Right Reg You won it alright. Now $1200.oo more will get it home for you.Put a few more bucks in it and you still made a good buy. Hope to get up in your neck of the woods to see your collection one day.Do you still have the 49 from Merced. Quote
1947PLEVY Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Very NICE looking.. I can't never get lucky on deals like that. God Bless.. John 47 Plevy Quote

Reg Evans Posted January 15, 2007 Author Report Posted January 15, 2007 Hi Nelson, Thanks again for previewing that car for me. I ended up selling the 49 Coronet a few months ago after getting all the bugs worked out of it. A local guy bought it. I was asking $2900 firm and he went right to the bank and returned with an envelope full of cash. I waited until he was busy looking over his new toy to count the money. The envelope contained $3900. My conscience got the best of me and I handed him back a grand. Man...was he surprised. He thought I said $3900. CRAP ! I did a complete brake job,new tires and replaced some other parts in it. I enjoy getting them going again and then passing most of them on. Definately a non-profit operation here but lots of fun. Greg, Thanks for your offer. I got an on line quote from DAS for around $600 terminal to terminal. Both terminals are about 50 miles from where the car is located now and it's new home.It would be a fun trip for you maybe but buy the end of Feb I'd be throwing a tantrum like a kid on the grocery store floor cause his mommy wouldn't buy him a candy bar. Wow Greg....way to go....1.5 tmes your present income. Hey with the extra dough you can afford lots of trips to Vegas. Quote
PatS.... Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 Why not do a relay? One members house to another? Fred can drive it to Regina and I'll drive it here Everyone puts a sticker on from his town. Quote
Guest Nile Limbaugh Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 I just polled about 8 carriers to haul my Dodge from Ga to AZ for a guy who has yet to send me any money!! Anyway, best deal by far was Reliable Carriers Inc. Door to door was 1500 as opposed to over 2000 for the highest bid. 800-833-7411. They have several teminals, this one is in Orlando FL. Quote
Guest mikeys toy Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 hey; I need to make a run out to san diego, so I'd drive it. you just pay for fuel Quote

Normspeed Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 What a nice survivor. I'll bet you'll have her all shined up and purring like a kitten in no time. Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 17, 2007 Author Report Posted January 17, 2007 Thanks for the nice comments and offers to help but I got lucky again. The seller has agreed to bring it out to me in a covered trailer for what the pros were gonna charge on an uncovered trailer. I don't have to pay for the car or hauling until he gets it here either. PLUS !!!! he's gonna have it here in my driveway by this Saturday. YAHOO !!!! He also says that the car comes with the original purchase agreement from the dealer in 1940 and the car really only has just under 35K miles on it. Quote
thedahmer Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Some guys have all the luck... Quote

Reg Evans Posted January 17, 2007 Author Report Posted January 17, 2007 I think you should change the title to; "I scored!, I scored!, I scored!" OK. Done Mikey. Does anyone make floor or trunk mats for this year? Quote
Jim Yergin Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Reg, I bought a reproduction front floor mat for my '41 Pymouth wagon from a guy who advertises in the POC Bulletin. He advertises the mat as being for 1937-1940 Plymouths and some 1941's. At $210 each they are not cheap but it was the only correct brown mat I could find for my car. I am very pleased with the quality. The vendor is William Knudsen (734) 626-0261; wknudsen402@aol.com Jim Yergin Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 18, 2007 Author Report Posted January 18, 2007 Thanks Jim. I just emailed him. Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 24, 2007 Author Report Posted January 24, 2007 Success !!!! Yesterday I googled the name on a copy of an old bill of sale that came with the car dated 8/71. Two identical names with different phone numbers came up in Oshkosh,WI. I called the 1st number and an elderly woman(80 yrs) answered. I introduced myself and asked about the car. It turns out her parents bought the car new in Oshkosh and she remembers being allowed to drive it a little as a teenager. When I asked if she thought the car could really only have 35,000 miles on it She said "Oh yes, her parents put the car up on blocks during WW2 and after that only drove the car on weekends and short trips visiting relatives." She is going to wright me a little story about the car. She then told me I should talk to her son because he owned the car from the mid 70's until now. She gave me his phone number and said it was OK to call him. I did and he verified everything she had told me. He's going to send me all the original sales receipts and is going to make me copies of the old photos he has of the car. YAHOO ! Quote
