Vintrader Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Well it has been an interesting winter. As some of you may know I sold my beloved 1951 B3C Express and delivered it to the new owner in Columbus OH on my way to Arizona in January. Then the search for the replacement began. I first went after a 1951 B3C that I had seen the year before that had been a US NAVY truck and had under 20K original miles. But found that it had been sold. Then looked at couple of other Pilot House trucks but neither one fit the bill. Then I cam across an 1950 B2B Fluid Drive. This truck was wonderful, but as I have been looking for another driver this was just to nice. I would have been afraid to use it as a truck, and that just does not work for me. But as it turned out I had been talking to some folks on the east coast that had been looking for a Pilot House truck to present to their father on his birthday. They told me that he had worked in advertising his whole life and he had been in charge the Pilot House adds back in the day. So off it went to Old Lyme CT. So that brings us to this week and the 1945 Dodge Pickup. I know little about these trucks. It is a great original Tucson AZ truck. No Rust, Runs and Drives very well. But it does need some parts and repairs and I am not finding much info. (and I thought Pilot House Trucks where hard to find parts for?) Any help would be welcome. And thanks in advance. Dutch Quote

Merle Coggins Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Dutch, You should get in touch with Young Ed here. He's the '41 - 47 truck guru as far as I'm concerned. He must be offline today or he probably would have chimed in. Quote

Young Ed Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 I just got online after a long day of junkyarding. Didn't come back with any dodge truck parts though. Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 What did you find Ed ? Any 2 bbl flat head six carb linkage ???? Quote
Young Ed Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Reg I opened the hood of every 55-57 dodge and plymouth I could find and they were all 1bbl or v8 cars. I couldn't even find a set of door window mouldings for my club coupe. They had 2 P15 club coupes that between them only had 1 door and no mouldings to be found. I bought from a dodge club coupe the interior rear window moulding and the external stainless trim. I bought a name plate for the pass side dual heater that was missing from my car. Thats it. Pretty slim pickings but it was fun looking around. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Dutch probably the most critical area to check is the windshield frame. They are very prone to rust and expensive to replace. From the looks of it and it being a 45 its probably a blackout model. Fairly rare. The missing hood ornament was made out of pressed soy beans instead of steel. Other parts were stamped instead of cast like the door handles and dodge plates for the side of the hood. Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Here's some more info on the 45 blackout models. Note the painted hub caps, trim, and front bumper. Here's one restored now Quote
MBF Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Dutch-nice finds as usual. No big deal to register for the Yahoo discussion group. There may be some other groups that are of interest to you too. Mike Quote
Young Ed Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Looks a little better then this 45 parts truck I bought. Dutch post what it needs and we can give you a better idea of how hard the parts you need are to find. Quote
PatS.... Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Vintage Power Wagons has a whole boatload of parts for that style of cab...like a candy store almost! This '46 Fargo FL7 followed me home last year...I've since given it to my nephew. He's almost got the "new" engine in...should be running within a couple of weeks Quote
Vintrader Posted April 13, 2009 Author Report Posted April 13, 2009 I can't really think of anything it needs right now. The bed has been replaced with metal but I don't think that bothers me. It came with the original bed strips. The interior could use a little help but all the parts are there. There is no rust on this truck anywhere. The windsheld still cranks out and the frame as well as the cab around it are fine. It was sold new in Tucson and has never left town. Quote
