randroid Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Robin, There was a thread about them here a few years ago but this was the first time I've been able to actually hear one. Thanks for sharing. -Randy Quote
LAKOTA169 Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 They have one at the Chrysler museum. They brought it out to the Orphan Car show last year and fired it up. Quote
greg g Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Saw one at the Gartlitts museum also, suposedly had a range of 5+ miles. I think they were mounted on a big turntable. Quote

I have a letter written by a great uncle who was living 17 miles nortn of Louisville in 1885. In this letter he writes that he could hear the river boat whistle clear as day. Of course in 1885 there was a lot less noise than there is today. But I woulod think this hemi siren would have a range greater than 5 miles. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Maybe it's the pitch. Maybe Unk lived up on the hill....boat in the valley. Quote
