gnordlie Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Is there a number on my p-15 that shows the original color of the car? Quote
Young Ed Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 No but if you send your serial to WPC the build card will tell you Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 I think only the Canadian cars got the paint code designitated on the body tag.. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Isn't the cost of the build card about $45 or so?? I've never gotten one on my car. If your car has been re-painted, or the paint is worn off, you might try looking in out-of-the-way places for some paint that remains. I have found my original color (Sumac Red) like on inner fender places, under other paint and dirt. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 I was also told the P15 serial numbers did not give a paint code. Either way though, if you are not going for a 100 point show car that can't be driven, it really doesn't matter what color you paint it. In which case, why spend $45 for a build card that doesn't tell you anything. Quote

I can understand if someone may not care to spend that amount of money for that kind of information but if you want that information the build card is the way to get it. You do need the serial number to get the build card. Jim Yergin Quote
gnordlie Posted March 11, 2009 Author Report Posted March 11, 2009 My coupe is black and everywhere I look in out of the way places, I see black. I'm curious if that was the original color. If it's been painted, they did a good job because I can find no evidence of any other color. Quote

In which case, you want to know all that, plus you probably get points for having the build card available. Or, you just want to know for your own information. I personally never cared about having the card since I have records from the original dealer, the two previous owners and then myself. Color on my coupe hasn't changed. It was kept at the cruiser maroon. Since I'm not going to any shows for points though, it doesn't matter to me if I have a build card, or if the color is original or not. That said, the people who have build cards could be of great service to those who want to paint their cars to the original color. Maybe a new thread started under Serial Number Paint Code could be started by someone. Give the numbers to look at on the serial number, then the color for that code. Eventually, there would be a whole list that GTK could add to the reference list. If I knew the number to look at on my coupe for example, I could then post that number for cruiser maroon for people. The reason I said you could not drive a 100 point car is simply because. If you drive it, it's going to get dirty and cars that are usually driven to shows are not considered the highest point cars. Cars that are driven to a show are usually one step down or more from the top. Quote
