This for your 51-52? The 51-52 plymouths you push down and twist I believe counter clockwise. Anyway try both directions. That gets the horn button out. The horn ring should have screws after that.

Bob,

Don't know about the 50's model steering wheel. However, I would think there would have to be screws holding the horn button on. On the 46-48 the screws are in a deep recess on each side of the back of the steering wheel hub. You have to remove the screws, then the horn button comes off and so will the horn ring.

The 49-52 deluxe cars with the horn ring should have a button in the middle that twists out. Then I believe 3 screws under that. The cheaper cars with only a horn button should be like the 46-48s I think with screws from the back.

I just put my hands on both my 51 and 52 Plymouth steering wheels..both have 4 screws on them that hold the horm button in place...you will look close you will see them form the rear..if not, at least be able to feel them with your finger...these screws enter into the horn button cover as the cover has brass nuts molded within the part.

streetshot3.jpgDoes yours look like this?

Or this?

One is the cheapy car one which I believe does detach from the back. The other one with the horn ring is the one that I'm 99% sure has the horn button twist to remove with screws below that.

That plain wheel is just like my 53 plain wheel. Anyone know, the part that surrounds the horn button looks like bakelite or something. I'd like to strip the old paint off mine. Will paint remover attack that part?
