48Dodger Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Sorry, just had to brag a little. My 16 y/o son has been making big strides lately in my shop. As most of you know I restore muscle cars on the side as well as race Street Stocks (1972 Charger). Zac has learned a ton this year. He's been using the plasma cutter, practicing on the Tig welder at home as well as taking welding classes in High School. We've been working on his 1972 Roadrunner in between working on my 1950 Pilothouse. He's spent a lot of after school hours on that truck. He really loves doing it all. After school yesterday, he got to "shoot paint" for the first time. And of course it was on his favorite car. Papa couldn't have been prouder. lol. He's a 3.8 student, polite, wants to join the Air Force to be an Aeronautical Engineer, and hopes to meet a F-22 up close. Out of all the cars and trucks I've done, I consider him, my biggest contirbution to the world of Hot Rods. 48D Quote
billwillard Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Good looking young man. Sure must have gotten his looks from his mom. Quote
woodscavenger Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 With a shop and set of tools like that I'd have a blast being your son too. I hope mine does the same. He is 11 and helps out a bit in the shop as well. Quote
Tom Skinner Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Zac sure is lucky having a Dad like you! Great Work Zac! My son is 13 and helped me do a Clutch job on my 1948 Chrysler last February, I only hope he continues to work on the Chrysler with me as thats half the fun. Tom Quote
Tom Skinner Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Hey Bill, I lost you phone number how about email me with it and I'll call you about driving up to see you with my son, we would like to visit you. We are in Huntersville NC Tom Quote
buds truck Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Great To See Another "young Gun" Coming Out Of The Wood Work. For Years My Son Wanted Nothing To Do With My Shop Stuff, I Used To Restore Cars On The Side, One Day He Just Came Down To Hang Out And He Just Never Left. He Wanted To Be A Chef, He Ended Up Being A Bodyman (and A Darn Good One Too). He Still Owns My Dads 69 Cadillac. Bud Quote
Mario Loya B1B Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 48D you are a proud papa. I'm guessing he is a proud son. Question: My son turned 7 yesterday. Do you think he is ready for a plasma cutter? Quote
woodscavenger Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 If he's not ready for the plasma....I am! Quote
MBF Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Good story-there's the future of the hobby! Having good kids is a blessing-I've got 4 and I'm proud of every one of them. Mike Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Your son is a keeper for sure. Good to see some younger folks learning the skills. Neither of my sons took an interest in cars. But I have a grandson with possibilities. Quote
48Dodger Posted February 12, 2009 Author Report Posted February 12, 2009 Thanks for the kind words guys. Its been fun reading your posts. My son and I have always had fun together, and of course I'm guilty of dragging him under just about every project I've worked on since I taught him his first word "varooom". I think I found myself in a sentimental moment the other day, when I realized Zac could handle power tools on his own. You know, doesn't need the "old man" to watch his every move. lol. Then I realized...he'll graduate in little over a year...... Zac, 3 years old, mastering his first power tool. Quote

Foolish me.. When am I going to graduate????????????? Never I hope, as a graduate knows everything there is to know, and I hope to never be there. Quote
48Dodger Posted February 13, 2009 Author Report Posted February 13, 2009 Well said Don. I just meant the kid is gonna be making his own way soon, and I don't think I get to go. lol:D Quote
