BobT-47P15 Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Fred......looks like a Hudson pickup made into a drag car. What was that rattling as you drove? The engine sounded pretty good, best I could tell. How many miles/km did you have to drive it to get home? Quote
Fireball Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Glad you guys made it Fred, looks like not the best weather for a roadtrip. What are your plans with that unique Hudson? Quote
rolliejoe Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 did you take a ferry or is the English Channel frozen over and you drove across the ice? Quote
fredsv8shop Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 the trip back from england to the Netherlands was 510 km and the ratling sound where the safety belts rattling against the roll cage we did not wear offcourse !! and yes we took the ferry from ramsgate UK to ostend belgium about 4 hours sailing. Its hard to describe your first trip in a car like this but rest assured it was goooooooood..... The car will stay like it is this year and next winter we decide what to do, maybe it stay's the way it is ( i like the old school ratty look ) Fred Quote
greg g Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 You folks have way too much fun!!!! I helped drive my daughter and her moving truck up from florida monday and yesterday. Some where in Northern Fla. we past a nice late 40 Sedan on the interstate. Looked stock, guy was cruising along at about 65. I think the kid took a couple pictures. Quote
fredsv8shop Posted February 22, 2009 Author Report Posted February 22, 2009 To my surprise the Dutch RDW ( DMV ) had no trouble with the Hudson, having a united europe these days the RDW has to accept the English technical standard of tech inspection, the car having its full MOT and paperwork up to date so the dutch dmv accepted the car without any tech inspection whatsoever. They checked the paperwork with the car and I have my Dutch registration on the car now !!!! They loved the sound of the 440 engine and asked me how much horsepower there was, I played dumb and sayd : i dunno , so he grabbed a book and looked up the engines of 1973 and found 281 HP to be allright, he said "You can't have enough power on paper for the future " one of inspectors had a look in the engine bay and wondered if Hudson had independed suspension in 1946 I told him that Hudson was way ahead of its time, he seemd pleased with the answer and left. They measured up the car and wheels etc. because this being the first Hudson pick-up ever to be brought into the Netherlands, so now the have recorded the dimensions of a 1988 Chevy C10 chassis as beeing a 1946 Hudson, I wonder the trouble the next Hudson will have ??? But all in all this time I look at the tech inspectors from the Dutch DMV as being my friends. Regards Fred Quote
greg g Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Fred Now you will ned to start looking for a Camper Coach (caravan?) to pull behind that when you and yours go to those hot rod trips. No more sleeping on the ground. You can drive the Plymouth and your better half can drive the Hudson Towing the rig. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 great story! this is one thing that won't happen to me with the german TÜV... dutch street law seems so much more relaxed to me. have fun with your new toy! 440... hmmm. :-) Quote
