I just forund some thing that is one of those "why didn't I think of that".

I like so meany of us want a finned aluminum head for my Ply., but they are hard to get. Also as it was pointed out you do not gain much over a milled stock head. Well I found a web site for a shop that sell's aluminum head covers for flat head Frod V8's. http://www.geneshotrodparts.com/original.htm

I would think this idea would work for us also if some one is set up to do aluminum casting. Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Sheldon

The look would be neat, if the cost was less than a real aluminum head. Two other things I'd probably spend my $$ on are an aluminum shell to fit over my much dented radiator tank and a six-hole valve cover made from old hemi parts to fit on top of my flathead six, just for the fun of it.

Why dont we try to recreate the flathead hemi prototype that they made back in the 40s??

has anyone acually purchased any equipment from phillips in the past year??? does the company exist and manufacture goods??

Greg,

The last contact I had with Phillips Performance was December 27, 2004. Received an email requesting a link to their web site on our site. I could be wrong, but I believe someone mentioned on the forum sometime last year that they bought something from Phillips. Guess the best way to find out is for someone who is interested in his stuff to call or email him.

I talked with him back in November and he is selling everthing but the head that he is still working on it. When I talked to Edgy about a head he said that it would be $800.00 plus 14 to 16 weeks to make it. I did not want to wait that long to get a head. I ended up buying my parts from Stovebolt and ebay. I still would buy a head if I could get one soon. If not I'm going to leave the stock head on for now.

I just though this cover was a way to dress a engine up with out a lot of cost or work. I would buy one if it was available.

Eventually I wouldn't mind getting a finned head for our long block if I could find a source, just for the looks.

What is the advantage of an aluminum head though? I have heard that aluminum holds heat more, and that aluminum heads are more likely to fuse to the block?

I don't know exactly (here comes one of my stupid moments that I mentioned earlier in the thread to Burd... but hey, I'm trying....), but in theory, a finned aluminum head would be lighter, have a higher compression (probably because the chambers are smaller), the fins would help "cool" the head. The weight and power differences should be good.... lower weight, go fast, more power, go faster.... my opinion anyways....

As for finding a source for long block heads.... vintage speed COULD build them, because they own the patterns for all offy stuff, including the long block heads, however, they don't want to make em.... cost too much to produce..... they just produce the small block stuff.....
