I like the originals and I have four. But I like the words in color, in my case probably red so polished one this afternoon to see if it needs to be rechromed and concluded it did not. See if you can tell which of the two I polished.

This evening I laid a good quality masking tape over the letters. Do not stretch the tape, you want it to push into the letters. Then with a MEDIUM point pen carefully find the inside edges, then carefully mark those edges, lightly at first then more heavily; then use a fine point pen to 'cut' that line. Finally use a very sharp pointed knife and cut out the tape where you want to paint. Go slowly, the ball point edge needs to stay to give a nice line / edge to the paint.

Tomorrow I will polish the other three then paint ( need to 'sand the letter so the paint will stick) and let set for at least a day so the edge of the paint is nice and dry. Not such a bad task, just takes a little patience. To do the circles is beyond my patience.

Now I think some just paint the cap and then wipe off leaving the letters, but it seems that might take some practice.

Painted DODGE today. The hubcap on the left was buffed about five times which shows how much that helps, the right cap was not buffed. I am not going to paint another cap as yet. When the caps are polished I like the look. I think this cap on a red or black wheel and a luxury ring would look great on this truck. Will wait now on the caps. This IS one way to paint the word DODGE.

I really wonder if the caps were painted when the trucks were new, they really look great all buffed out.

Dennis in Minn. has his caps in red, including the circles, (see Calander 2009 thread). Dennins, how did you do it? Looks great!!!

These were done the same way that you apparently did the dodge lettering.

Paint, then wipe off the high spot while it is still tacky. Of course I didn't do them, I bought the entire truck finished except for some minor details like under the hood.

Painting the entire area over the 'rings' makes the task much easier. I was thinking of painting each 'ring' with a paint pencil. After seeing yours I will paint the entire area if I paint anything at all. Thought of going with black wheels and moons, yet I think my truck will need a touch of red for accent and the red caps do that. HMMMMMMM. Maybe a MN red fox tail from the inside mirror, got any extra? OR Husker Mud Flaps, how about that Frankie!!!!:D

Thank you for the pictures, very nice, very helpful.

Scarlet & Cream...HHMMMM...Go HUSKERS!

Red lettering and alternating stripes with big red's uniform colors. Paint the lines cream{background} and pencil in your red, bet no one else has it!:) You'll still have your chrome surround.:D

Those look really nice done like that.

What's the size? I'm missing one and would like to get a replacement..

(seen vintage hubcaps but they only tend to give sizes)
