randroid Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Gents, While waiting yesterday for a doctor to grace me with his presence and bless my fragile body with the 'laying on of the hands', I came across a recent issue of "Motor Trend" magazine which named their car of the year. I'm not too interested in cars being manufactured today but curiosity got the best of me and I perused the article. One of the points touted in the article was the clean aerodynamics afforded by the shape of the "C" pillar. I don't recall the make and model of the car but I saw numerous photos of it and not one of them showed more than two doors. Perhaps it had a third door as a hatchback, thereby qualifying something somewhere as a "C" pillar, but it didn't seem to have one. Suggestions? It's too early in the morning for me to be this confused. -Randy Quote
Young Ed Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Since the elimination of a 2dr hardtop the B pillar is between the door opening and the rear window. Quote
Frank Elder Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Isn't the "C" pillar the windshield post? The A pillar would be more logical for a windshield post what was I thinkin'.... Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Starting from the front, the windshield pillar is "A", the center pillar is "B", the roof to quarter panel pillar is "C". In the stamping plant it used to be called the sail. Quote
Frank Elder Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 So that is what the sail panel is, the 70 charger I had seemed to actually be shaped like a sail on the "C" pillar, Thanks Mr. Hoback. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 They don't call it a sail anymore because its part of the whole side of the body including the door frames, outer rocker, and quarter panel all in one. Five years ago it was called an "aperture", but not having worked for five years I don't know what they call it now. Possibly "the big side piece", or "doohickey" maybe. Quote
Frank Elder Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Or big, smooth uninteresting, boring panel! :D Quote
