Jim Saraceno Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Last month I was visiting my son in San Francisco. While out for a walk I saw a beautiful p15 drive by all fixed up to look like a taxi cab. Unfortunately it was out of sight by the time I got the camera out. I was just wondering if it belonged to anyone on this site? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 I've seen a couple P15s done as taxis. One was for sale somewhere at the time. The other was owned by a forum participant....don't think we've heard from him recently. Billy Austin was his name. Lou Earle has a blue and white P15 taxi. Quote
PatS.... Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 Billy Austin's beautiful taxi, from the members list: http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/image.php?u=118&dateline=1161708422&type=profile Quote
1940plymouth Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 Being a proud owner of a 1940 Plymouth, sure would like to see more photos of that '40 Taxi if possible It sure is one nice looking car Is it an original taxi? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Ooops....I see that I didn't remember as good as I thougt. Billy's taxi is not a P15, but a 40 model. Sure looks good. Many kinds of cars were used as taxis back in that era. There were a lot of DeSotos built as cabs, some with sun roofs. Where are they all now??? Quote

1940plymouth Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Question, I noticed on the '40 Taxi that it didn't have the stainless on the running boards. I have seen a few other photos of other '40 Plymouth taxi's that appear not to have the stainless moulding also. I wonder if they were removed so they wouldn't get damaged as the car came up the the curbs? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 did they put stainless on the running boards...my top of the line 41 Dodge D19 T/S, last of the running board sedans for them did not have trim either... Quote
