laynrubber Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 I can buy an over drive for $200 attached to a mostly complete 53 Dodge 4 door. The drive train is all there but not running. Not sure about the overdrive unit, condition of completeness, or the rest of the car but I am excited about the overdrive. What would this be worth ????? Will it fit a 52 Plymouth ????? Quote
Normspeed Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 I'd grab it. Also get the dash cable, kickdown switch, kickdown switch bracket and OD relay And anything that's left of the original wiring harness. Quote
mackster Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 You can make your money back on parts sales (read Norm's Coupe post on this) and scrap sale, that can pt your OD for free!!!! Quote
blueskies Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 I paid $300 for my '55 Dodge OD/transmission, and it came with the incorrect input pinion shaft, busted first and reverse gears, and a busted free-wheeling clutch... And it didn't come with a free parts car... or the electrics and cable. I'd grab it up. Even if you have to rebuild the OD/transmission, it is a good deal. Pete Quote
laynrubber Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 Will this OD unit fit a 25 inch 230 that had a 3 speed ?? Quote
blueskies Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Will this OD unit fit a 25 inch 230 that had a 3 speed ?? If both cars have standard three speeds it should be a direct swap. If one of the cars has a fluid drive or other semi-automatic transmission, the input pinion shaft on the transmission will not be the correct length. The drivelines should be the same, assuming your '52 is not a business coupe or woody or fastback. Pete Quote
Furylee2 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 That’s exactly what I paid for a 53 Plymouth hardtop with overdrive. I got the tranny, relay on the firewall, kick down switch, and cable/bracket from the dash. Now I just need to get it installed in my 41. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Lee its not that bad of a job. I've helped on 3 of them now. Dads 50 took about 8 hours including making a new wiring harness. The actual tranny is the easy part. Quote
Normspeed Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Lee, if you still have the 53 hardtop, there are some pieces sorta unique to that car and you really should hang onto them. One is the rear window regulators, pretty hard to find for that model. Also the rear window and the trim for it. All the glass actually. Grandadeo (also a Lee) is in need of some side windows for his 53 HT, his are cracked. His has the light green factory tint. Quote
Furylee2 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Ed, I know, it's just getting around to it. I did order a new overdrive wiring harness from T&Z, so I should have everything I need. Norm, yes, I still have the car. It's on another POC members farm in central Nebraska. It's pretty tough, the floors are all gone. There was some interest from a street rodder who wanted it. Lee Quote
Young Ed Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Lee if you were local I'd be over to help. I still owe you one for crawling under my dash and getting that wire back in place. Quote
Grandadeo Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Lee, as Normspeed said. I am in need of some glass for my '53 Plymouth 2 door Hardtop. Especially a tinted windshield. As he said, both door window have cracks but the windshield is most important. Let me know if we can work something out. The Other Lee Quote
Furylee2 Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 Boy, first it was the “other” Norm, now it’s the “other” Lee. Hi Lee, I scanned in a couple of pictures I took in Aug, 06, and it looks like it has the “green” windows you are looking for. I called Merrill this morning (he’s the guy I gave the car to), and he thought the windshield was cracked. But he said he would check all the glass. He was the one you actually found it. He worked with a guy who said “Hey, I got this old Plymouth on my farm, are you interested”? So he picked up the car and hauled it out to his place, pulled all the parts that go with the overdrive (the tranny was already out and in the car), and brought it all to a club meeting for me. I took my camera out to take pictures, thinking I might throw it up on the Bay, until I saw it. Pretty tough. He had a guy come out looking for a project, and at one point talked about trading it for a 440. But he said this morning, that deal never came about. So you will probably be working with him. Send me your email address, and when I find out about the glass, I can give you his number. If it’s good, he can pull it, but I don’t know about getting it from central Nebraska to Florida Lee. Quote
