Guest gary35pj Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 This is my first post so please be patient with me. I have a 51 b3b that has a horizontal opening for a radio, is a model 802 Motorola the proper radio for this truck? Quote
Bob_Koch Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 Gary, welcome to the forum. You came to the right place to ask your questions. The 802 and it's smaller sister the 602 are both vertical radios used in the 1948-50 trucks and many cars as well. The 51 - 53 trucks used a horizontal radio which is a 610T. Unfortunately they are extremely rare to find, almost to the point to being called mythical. I can't ever recall seeing even one for sale on ebay. Quote
Reg Evans Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 Welcome to the Forum Gary. By your handle it looks like you might own a 35 Plymouth too. Cool ! Any photos of your vehicles you can post here? The 610T's are about as common as Hens teeth. I know where one is but I'm not tellin where. I'm waitin for them to leave home for a while. Quote
Guest gary35pj Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Yes Reg, I own a 35 PJ conv. If I knew how to send a pic I would. Thanks for the Info on the radio. I am having the gas tank on the 51 done now so I thought what better time to put a gas tank sender in. HA HA I thought I should be able to find one but was I ever wrong. Still Looking. I would rather get something original but I may have to change my mind. Quote
Guest gary35pj Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Here are some of my cars. Thanks for the help !! Quote

Guest Dave Claussen Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Gary, Welcome to the forum. Lots of good info here and willing folks to help fellow enthusiasts. Don't be afraid to ask questions, somebody here has probably already "been there, done that" at least once or twice. Nice selection of rides there. What year is the litle red truck? Late 30's I'm guessing? Quote
Vintrader Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Yes Gary Welcome, any pictures of the B-3-B ? I have a 51 B-3-C ( pictures at the Pilot House Garage ) on the DPETCA site. I read your profile, and I am not sure I would want to retire from that job.....( Retired test driver for army tanks ) Have a Nice Holiday. Dutch Quote
Guest gary35pj Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 I just went outside and took a couple of pics of my 51 and one of my 37 plymouth. The red truck in the above pics is a 41 ford truck. Thanks for the compliment on my rides. Sorry my file size is too big so Ill have to figure out how to shrink them. Quote
Guest gary35pj Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 I think I resized the pics so here goes again. My 51 truck, 37 plymouth, abrams tank. Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 I could be wrong but I think that's the first time we've had an Abrams tank on the forum. You get a little gold star by your name. Hey, has that thing got a Hemi?!! Quote
Bob_Koch Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Been saving this picture for a long time. I think it's a good time to show it now. But I'll let you guess for a while as to what is this little gem is. How many engines do you see in this picture? And What was it for? Hint: Chrysler made it. Quote
greg g Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Oh that old thing, the 5X6 flathead tank engine from Chrysler. All ya gotta do is count the distributors or sumptin like that..... Quote

Guest Dave Claussen Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Is it just the way the light is or is that a camoflage paint job? That is one amazing piece of engineering. Curious as to how many horsepower it would make. No way that's fittin' in a pilothouse, even with a real big shoe horn. Quote
Bob_Koch Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Have we discussed this one? It's a hemi. Quote
Reg Evans Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 On the tank engine.....where do you insert the hand crank when the battery is low? Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Reg, I think you just push it down a big hill and pop the clutch! Quote
Guest gary35pj Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 I worked at the only tank manufacturing plant in the U.S. so every now and then we would get in some old tanks for volunteer rebuilding so I saw different configurations. I did see your set up in a tank, I also saw a very large 500 hp. Ford flathead. All in all working there was very interesting to say the least. The above pics are the best I have ever see. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 I worked at the only tank manufacturing plant in the U.S. Lima, Ohio? Quote
Guest gary35pj Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Yes, I worked at the Lima Army Tank Plant. Quote

Vintrader Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Gary, welcome to the forum. Bob_Koch Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 As far as I know, there is no reason that the 611T won't work. One obvious difference is that the speaker is a different size, which is easily remedied by getting a 5inch speaker. I don't know what the voltage requirement for the 611T is. I think it's 12 volts which may, or may not work to your advantage, depending on if you've upgrade the charging system. I also believe the 611T to be difficult to come by. One sold on ebay a few weeks ago for $350. as-is, no guarantees. Quote
Bob_Koch Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Just had a relook at your picture. The 611T is a 6 volt radio by the looks of the tube numbers. Quote
