mackster Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 I am really happy! A forum member was kind enough to send me this grill at no charge....if I would use it. I am thankful that He thought of me and now I have a grill that goes with the car! I will get it rechrome later, I am pushing for all the mechanical stuff needed. I have to look for a radiator, does anyone know what I can use on this Desoto? Quote
mackster Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 and other pics of the right grill.... Quote
Tony Cipponeri Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Wow, Mackster I like both grills, I don't know which I like best. Tony C Quote
mackster Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 I think I like the new (old original grill) better and I will get that one chrome later..Who likes the old (newer custom made with a light in the middle) better? just weighting peoples opinions.... Quote

Allan Faust Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 I've always loved the teeth.... been a long time barris merc fan.... didn't know they were originally on desotos until lots later... Allan Quote
mackster Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 Mackster: I like the new old original grill better. Looking Good!!!! Jim C Thank You James, and Thank You for providing me with the grill!!!! publicly I would like to thank you for helping me, by providing several parts that I needed from your private stash. Braving the weather, snakes and mosquitoes you got it for me and at no cost!!! you are a gentleman and a scholar! thank You James! Quote
NatesSedan Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 First I love the teeth as well. It really is a nice grill. Second...It is very nice to see some of the stuff that makes this forum great. After Robin's experience with the radio it's nice to see the good stuff. Quote
BloodyKnuckles Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 I like them both. It's nice to see a DeSoto with an original grill. They have been raped for too long!! But the other grill says true kustom. With your chopped top I think it lends itself well. As for the radiator, I have a '53 Chrysler 331 radiator. What engine is in yours? Where would the inlet and outlet be located? Not sure of the condition, whether or not it leaks. Let me know this info. BTW...Kudos to James. It doesn't get much better than that!! Don Coatney Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Try blacking out a tooth or two:D Give it the 50's carnival look:eek: And buff it out a bit Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 I prefer the original toothy smile. Quote
daddyo23 Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 The new one looks cool with the chop, too. James is one class act to share his stash with you. That's what makes this site the best. Wayne P. Quote
55 Fargo Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 Hey Mackster, I like it man, lookin cool. Quote
55 Fargo Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 The important question is, what does the Mackster like and prefer, all others are secondary.... Quote
Normspeed Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 I like the DeSoto grille, looks great with the chop. Your car is looking better all the time. Gonna turn some heads cruising down the boulevard. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 What a novel idea......a DeSoto grille in a DeSoto. Many of those grilles now reside on 49-51 Mercurys. I personally like the DeSoto one. But the other does fit the opening pretty well and gives another look. Quote
mackster Posted August 17, 2008 Author Report Posted August 17, 2008 The important question is, what does the Mackster like and prefer, all others are secondary.... Thanks everybody for the kind words and thanks again to James, it is what this forum is all about. I lurk and post sometimes in other forums but this place is dear to me. Thanks to normspeed for finding me and guiding me here...(I sound like I got an award or something!) and Rockwood, you are right pal,My choice.... I love the new old original grill it is something of a bittersweet revenge for me, to get a car that was torn apart for the grill and engine and bring it back to the roads again. this car wanted to survive the crusher and I am glad I bump into it. I am back at working on it. . . so am gonna ask a lot of questions again...Don I am looking your way again!!!!! Quote
Normspeed Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 Hey Mackster, a word of caution...I wouldn't leave that grille in the car until you're ready to final install it. That's a real big temptation for anyone who knows the value of them. Lee and I recently got to visit a storage yard in Berdoo where there were tons of vintage Mopars. The owner told us the only notable theft he had was someone coming in one night and removing the entire grille out of the same kind of car. Quote

I am concerned I have to shoot the bastard that will touch my car. Does anyone know if that is legal??? I will shoot first and sort it out later..... Quote
