About Me

I thought I should finally write something here. But not about me. About my truck.

I have a 1956 Fargo 1 Ton. It has a 251 Flathead L6 as a motor. I drove it down to where I live from Dauphin, MB Canada. It has been in the family since it was new.

It was originally owned by a Great Uncle of mine. My Dad bought it off him and did the brakes and got another 251 motor put in to it. When I got it the truck it was sitting in a garage at the family farm. It had been sitting in there for 30 years and had never seen winter. When my Dad got to it in 2010 the trucks motor was seized so he found another one in a combine. Then after putting that motor in and doing the brakes and getting new tires put on. He parked it in the garage and started it up ever year but it just sat in the garage.

On June 8th of 2016 my father passed away and the truck went to my mother. She didn't know what to do with it. So she asked if I wanted it and gifted it to me. With one condition I can never sell it and it has to stay in the family. So it is 62 years old and still in our family. I remember my Dad telling me when he was a child he could remember riding in the middle of the bench seat as they brought it home new.

Now for me and what I have done to it since I got in July of 2016. The first thing I did was take the 12 volt generator out and put a 12v 2 wire alternator in to it. After that I rewired it to get it started. That was a fun project because I did it at the farm. We are about 18 km from anywhere up there. So if I forget to buy something I would have to go back. After I got the wiring done I brought the truck home.

Now at home I have put another gas tank into it because the one I had was split at the seam. I have rewired it 2 times that was fun. Put 2 new back lights and licence plate light on it. Rewired the back lights so the wires weren't hanging on the ground. I have put new front park lights on and rewired them because they weren't working. Funny last year the wires had power this year not so much. I have put a new water pump on and a new belt. I have put new spark plugs in it, new spark plug wires, new ignition coil and hooked up a ballast resistor. So all in all so far it's been a fun year with the truck

2016 was not a fun year. I told you about losing my Father. In addition to that I lost my partner of 10 years on November 3rd of 2016. Plus the family pet went not long after that. So 2016 was not that great. Hoping 2017 is much better.

I will now stop this with saying this. If you have a wife, partner, daughter, son, Father, or Mother don't ever forget to say I love you because you never know when the time is up.

Have a great day every one.

Update 2017: I installed a Petronix Electronic Ignition, Rebuilt the Carburetor, Used rubbing compound and waxed it, tightened the box down, and rewired the lights again.

all in all good year this year so far. Its only half way through. I hope all of you are have a fantastic year so far.

Update so far 2018: I installed a Petronix Coil and of coarse did some other wiring but cleaned it up, Have ran new brake lines, and have started to clean all the parts I can under the truck. Plus I just started on replacing the king pins and tie rod ends. The King pins are done. I put a backup led light under the truck. Had to take gas tank off because there is a hole in it.

Still 2018 I put new shocks on. Plus I painted the front beam and steering parts. I bought 2 led brake lights for the back.

Update 2019: I got the gas tank fixed and in the truck. Got all the gaskets to start on the motor. Head gasket, Timing gaskets, Crankshaft seal. Well I guess I should tell what happened in the rest of 2019. I bought 2 engines first was in May  and it was a 354 Hemi. The second was in December and it is a 318 LA motor. Right now they are sitting at different corners of the garage. Basically became garage art for now. I rebuilt the carburetor about 4 times. I ran new fuel line copper nickel. Funny day after I ran it. I was drilling through the frame and put a hole in the copper nickle line. I have a new drill and bit. The drill didn't make it. Not like I was mad or anything . Anyways getting back to 2019. I put a new fuel pump in. Put new gaskets on the intakes. Put new headlights in halogen. Plus I put new signal light switch in with 4 way flashers. I also put Led lights in the turn signals.

Well I guess that is it for 2019.  Never ever did get to that bench seat.

Update 2020: I have bought the rubber mat that fits on the floor of truck. I have also bought a new set of dash inserts to update the gauges in the truck.

Hopefully doing a few other thing to the interior of the truck in 2020.

hoping you all have a good 2020
