From what I've read on various forums on various sites, there does not seem to be much in the line of a 6 volt jump box for starting a 6 volt car with a dead battery. I also see that you can use a 12 volt battery to jump a 6 volt car if your careful as outlined in many posts. Although, I might be worried about things like 6 volt fuel pumps, or say a 6 volt pertronix ignition. I wonder, if there was a 6 volt jump starter available...say using a lithium ion battery, with a port to charge a cell phone or two, would anyone be interested? I know these are becoming popular in 12 volt models, since they are so small and convenient. If you know where to get one, let me know. I would like to keep one with me in my travels. Wow, I just tried a little oil. Now the wiper work just fine. Heard this before, but never got around to trying it. Now for the radio. I hear static, but nothing else. I guess I'll check the antenna connection first.

I used a 6 volt relay. I'll try to find where I bought it (online), but in the mean time its a Tyco Electronics 0-1432873-1.

I was having hot start problems as well. I did the same thing, put in a pertronix (ignitor) and the matching coil. I also just put in an electric fuel pump (Airtex E8011) way back by the gas tank. Now it leaps to a hot start. Today was 90 here....started right up hot. I was wilting, but the car was running. Bypassed the mechanical fuel pump, wired the pump in with a relay and an inertia cut off switch in case of an accident.....but to me it was worth the effort and expense, it just starts right up...hot...cold...whatever. I so agree...I like that I can enjoy/trust my car. My wife likes it too. Happy wife...happy life! Almost forgot...the pertronix support is excellent...either by email or phone. I had a few questions.

Thanks. I wonder if they are AN fittings, not the NPT pipe thread type fittings I thought they were. I'm gonna take a closer look this afternoon Another question...... I replaced the mechanical fuel pump with and electric pump because the mechanical pump failed on me a few weeks ago. Not 100% sure if it was just a mechanical failure of the pump or a vapor lock issue. Hot day, there was no head shield on the mechanical pump. The car did cool off for a good 1/2 hour, and still, no go. Either way, I decided to go electric, mounting it back near the gas tank. Question I have is with all the issues I hear about vapor lock, should I be heat shielding the fuel line under the hood in some way? Or does the change to electric fuel pump eleminate any vapor lock problems? Appreciate any thoughts you gus have. Just as an aside. We were stuck with this fuell pump problem 100 miles from home, on our way to my wifes daughters wedding which was another 50 miles away. My wife was.....well.....stressed. Just as she started writing FOR SALE...CHEAP in lipstick on the back window, a young man pulled over to help us. He diagnosed the problem..took me to a NAPA store...stopped home to pick up some tools....and installed that electric pump by passing the mechanical one. Then followed us for a bit as we drove away. We got to the wedding. Nope, he wouldn't take a dime. Although I did stuff my emergency C-note and my wifes thank you note into his tool bag when he wasn't looking. He saved the day.

What are those special brass fittings called?

I didn't know that about those fittings. I can do that, tap in on the side of the engine...heat wouldn't be a problem?...that's why I was thinking of putting it up at the oil pressure gauge. Thanks guys!

Does anyone know what the thread size is on the back of the oil pressure gauge, where the oil tube connects? It's a 48 Dodge. Appears to be a stock gauge. I'm planning to use a t fitting to connect a oil pressure switch (PS64) back there. Then use that switch to wire in a electric fuel pump. I found some very helpful info on this site on this topic (thanks for that), but I'm just stuck on the thread size. The 1/8 t fitting I have fits the switch alright, but 1/8 is to big to fit into the guage, or the oil tube that feeds the gauge. Same issure under the hood. 1/16 NPT maybe? Thanks Scott

For what it's worth, I just installed a Petronix into my '48 Dodge last month. I Thought I did it all correctly, but the car ran....as you say....lumpy. like I had the firing order wrong. So I called the tech help line at Petronix. They were very helpfull...my problem was that I had solid (metal) core spark plug wires. Those solid (metal) core wires caused interference. They suggested I switch to carbon (suppperssion) core wires, I did and now it runs fine. Hope that is of some help. Scott

I'm real frustrated with these guys. My first (and only) 2 orders never got to me. They sent them to the wrong address both times....mixing up part of the billing address and part of the mailing address, in different ways....both times. This despite my calling after the first order to correct the address in their system. Then, when I call to inquire as to where these packages went, they are still don't seem to be paying attention...asking me the same questions repeatedly. And if they know the packages were returned to them, didn't anone there wonder what was up? Guess it didn't matter, they had my money. To be fair, I'll up date if they manage to fix this and resend to the right address. Meantime, I'll search this site for some other parts sources. I am posting so you can be aware of this if you have a different billing and shipping address. And I needed to vent. Ok, I vented. Enjoy the summer driving season!

A nice day, and, it was nice meeting you all! That was our first big car show...wow...so much bigger than I expected. Also that was the first time we took the dodge further than 10 miles from home. My wife, Terri is no fool, she made sure we had the number for Hagerty towing programmed into her cell. But the car performed flawlessly...although a little hard to start when it was hot.
