  1. In support of Scarebird: As some may remember I was looking for a disc kit that would work with the dropped uprights from Fatman Fabrications and work with the stock rims. I checked out the kits from Rusty Hope, Plydo, AAJ, ECI and Scarebird. Scarebird offered to mock up his kit with my dropped upright if I shipped it to him. We split the shipping, I paid one way he paid the other. He emailed photos of the mockup and his notes and suggestions for using the upright with his kit. I received my part back in the same condition it was in when I sent it. I had not even purchased his kit yet. I did buy the Scarebird kit as I felt it was the one that best fit what I wanted to do with my car. I am now starting to gather the brake parts. I found the rotors on Amazon for $29 each. The rest of the parts I'm getting from Napa. I'll have under $400 into the conversion (kit+brake parts). Any questions I have asked have been answered in a timely manner, usually within 24 hours and often within minutes. I am confident that if I have any trouble I'll get help from Scarebird, he hasn't failed me yet. I have nothing against Charlie or his kit and I have links to all of the suppliers mentioned above on my web site. It's a good thing that there is more than one person making these kits and we have options.
  2. I did contact Dave Kruse at Metal Rubber Corp as suggested by Olddaddy. Dave replied that he is planning on reproducing that rubber part and many others. He sent me some info that I posted in the classifieds here: http://www.49plymouth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=901 Sway bar rubber discussion is going on here: http://www.49plymouth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=869
  3. Thanks for the concern! Everything is still Good Going over here. I have been doing a lot of work on the site. 2009 is the 49 Plymouth's 60th birthday so I redesigned the site as a 60th anniversary edition. The message board had a major update done and was moved so if you had the post bookmarked you may have had trouble there. The past 6 months has produced a lot of additions to the site. As I have been getting forther in my 49 project the activity has picked up. There's not as much activity as this fine board but the focus is narrowed on, well... '49 Plymouths. I'm still working on the inner sway bar rubber search. I did contact Dave Kruse at Metal Rubber Corp as suggested by Olddaddy. Dave replied that he is planning on reproducing that rubber part and many others. I'll link some of the info on the original "sway bar rubber" post. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=12729
  4. Mine was really plugged up. After letting it sit in a parts washer for a week or so it still was blocked. Finally I used a small screwdriver to slowly pry the top of the vent until it loosened up. I was able to blow air through it with an air tool. Then just pinched the cap back into place. Easy.

  6. I have the scarebird kit and will be installing it on my car soon. I asked a lot of questions from each disk conversion vendor before choosing to use this kit. Here's the rusty hope kit. and the scarebird kit:
  7. As I'm getting more of my car back together I've noticed that 60 year old rubber is junk now. I've tried to reuse the parts that still look o.k. but end up replacing them because they are too dry and brittle. The rubber that is in contact with moving parts like the sway bar and shackle bushings are misshapen and worn out. What's the point in trying to use it if it isn't going to be able to do it's job? I have been looking at the sway bar bushings too. I searched around and came across some bushings that looked like the outer ones. Emailed the company and asked for the dimensions. They are for 60's Cameros but are close enough to use for the outer bushings. More info on them here: http://www.49plymouth.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=869 I figured that sway bar bushings are somewhat universal, just need to find the right bar diameter. I was even wondering if it would be benificial to see if the inner bushings could be turned into greaseable bushings by buying a modern greaseable bushing and tapping a grease zert into the plymouth bracket. Anyway, I believe that the 49 and 50 sway bar is the same. Sounds like Olddaddy has a good lead for the inner bushings. I just sent an email to Dave.
  8. 1950 Plymouth had the wave lines not '49.
  9. A leaf blower! That's awesome. I use an air blower connected to the compressor to clean out my cars. Worked great for blasting out all the dirt that was packed into the frame too.
  10. I've heard them called welch plugs/caps or expansion plugs. Check and see if someone like Roberts motor parts would just sell you the caps. Worth a shot?

  12. There we go! Thanks Terry. Do you have and info about the jack then?
  13. That's where it was found, under the seat. I don't think anything has been cut off of it and this is the second one found in a truck. I'm leaning towards it being a jack handle. RJ562 = Rusty Jack #562
  14. Maybe it's a right handed exhaust shifter.
  15. Any idea what this is? It was found in a Dodge truck. It was folded in half and when it it straightened the bracket can slide down and lock the elbow in place. The numbers on it are RJ562.
  16. I ordered the JC Whitney leaf springs 07/22/2008 and they arrived 09/30/2008. So almost 2 months. During that time I went crazy because the estimated time bounced around worse than a car with busted leaf springs! I read some other posts that said when their order would get cancelled they would reorder, then they received them right away. Stick with it, jump the hoops, it's worth it.
  17. Nice looking haul. Just let me know if that 49 bumper is in the way. I'll store it, no charge. However, it may get mixed up with my parts and you'd probably not get it back.
  18. So it's a rare restored blackout model speedo then? Will it work in a rat rod? That's the one that is driving me crazy as an overused selling word tag. Seems like every part for my car listed on epay has rat rod tagged to the end of it.
  19. You mean "The undercarriage is farm fresh with surface rust" isn't a selling point?
  20. Mickey Mantles 49 Plymouth Convertable hits the bay. Dig them crazy '55 trim doors. Seems like the convertables are coming out all over the place all of a sudden. http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/75B-Mickey-Mantles-1949-Plymouth-Convertible_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem370098495204QQitemZ370098495204#la-image-2
  21. Use some BFI (brute force and ignorance) with the BFH.
  22. Young Ed speaks the truth.
  23. Matched the originals. Hopefully they perform well on the car. I opened one of the spring covers and checked it out. Still had some of the cloth in there. Were those covers a good idea or just something that collected water and rusted the springs?
