Yes, I saw it and greatly appreciate the info. I hope to have this baby in my hands before X-mas and ring in the new year with staticky am radio music.
Thanks Bob. I knew one of you guys from the other forum could provide some insight. I went ahead and bought the 802 on eBay, since that was a cheaper option to repairing my current radio with updated parts.
The radio I currently have in the truck is a 2 part unit (Philco head end and a box bolted to the firewall). The head end doesn't have any presets, so as far as I'm concerned this is an upgrade.
I am a pilothouse truck owner therefore spend most of my time in that forum, but the guys over there seem to think the guys on this side have a wealth of knowledge. Can someone on this side impart some of this knowledge by answering a question I posted on the Pilot-house forum?

Does anyone if this radio described as an 802 Deluxe (notice 7 buttons) will fit the factory cutout for my 49 B1B
Seller describes it as "radio is correct for all 1946 1947 1948 CHRYSLER PLYMOUTH DODGE and DeSOTO cars."
Will it work for my truck without any modifications?
Dave, that would be great. My truck doesn't have either type of mount. If I can find the side mount hardware and a spare rim for my 1/2 ton, I would do it. I really like the look of a nice looking spare tire on the side of the bed.
Can anyone tell me if this is a spare tire mount? I was under the impression the spare tire was stored under the bed. This truck pictured is a 1950 B2B. My truck is a 1949 B1B. Would it be "incorrect" for the year to mount a spare on the side of my truck.
Here's something similar called the "bible on oil" I can't remember where I first saw this when I bookmarked it, so it is very possible you guys may have already seen this. http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html
Ed, I don't disagree with anything you said. I think i will try to tinker with the visor to improve its stance, but truth be told, I have never been too sure about keeping it on the truck. I am 6'3" and love pilot house trucks for their roomy cabs, but scrunching down at traffic lights to wait fo a light change because of the visor makes me think I may be better off without it.
Norm, I was afraid of that. I think I'll try to fabricate something from some chrome trim or something similar. My last resort will be buying the visor. Thanks.
Dave,
I am not particularly happy with the look of mine. I am not sure what it is. It seems too high. But as the photos indicate, it needs to be in order to clear the hood.
Does anyone know where I can get the center chrome piece that covers the center joint of the visor. I bought the truck with this piece missing and was hoping to find a replacement.
My '49 truck has an Arvin in it, which seems to work pretty well. I was not really sure of the brand until yesterday when I saw a NOS listed on eBay. Notice the phone number for service is 320 and the price tag reads $26.90.
I have a magnetic american flag on mine, that gets rotated around every once and a while. No problems as of yet. I have also been surprised that it has stuck to all parts of my truck, so far. That is a good sign. You never know how much (or little) metal is under that glossy black paint, unless of course you did the restoration yourself.
Didn't think to search ebay. Thanks Bob. I just sent the seller an email.
Bach4660, Thanks for the offer. I may have to hit you up, if the other options don't work out.
Greg, thanks for the reply. So what you are saying is the filler tub is not threaded into the motor. I will do what you suggested to get it to seat properly. I doubt the airfilter element inside the cap will survive a cleaning. What do you (or anyone else out there) suggest I use to filter the air. Is a new oil filter cap readily available through NAPA?
I noticed the air filter cap that tops the oil filler tube is in serious need of cleaning. My shop manual recommends a kerosene wash, but the element that is in the cap appears to be paper or something that is now so brittle that appears to be like gunked up paper. The element doesn't seem to be something that can be replaced. If it is, I don't know how to get to it. My question is can I just remove what remains of the element and go without one. How important is this filter? I don't use my truck on dirt roads. Also, how important is a good seal between the oil filler tube and the engine? the tube rotated a few times while I was trying to get the cap off and noticed the gasket between the two is very worn and coming apart. I assume this area is not under pressure while driving and this should not result in a leak? Am I right?
Usual Disclaimer - I don't know what I'm doing but willing to learn.
I hope you don't laugh too hard at the subject of this post, because its a serious matter. Just decided to check the oil level in my truck this morning and had a terrible mishap. Can anyone help a brother out? Anyone willing to sell a spare? Is welding it an option?
Ken's ride looks real nice. I especially like the license plate ('DAD 4U") and the story behind it.
If I were to do the same, I would have to restore a '66 Impala. I have good memories of the Impala but not enough to do a restoration. I'll stick with my truck.
