  1. Hello Marty, as I can see, the needle is fix. When I make the returns spring a little bit harder, the needle goes to zero but this results in showing too low speed. If I loose tension speed is correct but needle won't return to zero.
  2. Hello Andy, maybe you're right. I'm only afraid that the bellhousing is too high and I'm not able to get it under the car. Have funny scenes in my head how to solve that problem, but I try it your way. If you don't hear from me any more I'm under the transmission trying to find a way to get us both out of there... Kai
  3. Hello all, I now checked the free play and it's 1". The grinding doesn't stop, so I think I had to get the clutch out. The car is equipped with a fluid drive. Does anyone know if it's possible to get the tranmission out of the car through the inspection pan? I do not have a lifting ramp :-(
  4. Hello all, ok, odometer is fine but speedometer has a 15 miles delay beginning at about 15 up to 65 mph. I opended the speedometer and found a little thing wich adjust the tension of the spring. I loose it a little bit and it seems to be much better, but as TodFitch sayed, no the needle doesn't go back to zero it stops at 15. I think, it might be the problem with the weak magnet but for the moment, I will keep it as is. Thanks for your help
  5. Hello Everybody, was on a trade fair the last 5 days so I couldn't check. Tire size is the original 6.00x16 so it might be something different. I downloaded an app for my iphone and I#m going to check Speedometer and odometer asap. I found in another topic the sometimes the gear for the odometers stucks to the needle, so the odometers turns wild and the needle get's too slow. A short time ago I wondered that the odometers shows lot's of miles since I bought the car but I didn#t drive very far. Perhaps there is a connection between these to things. I let you know what will happen. Thank you in advance Kai
  6. Hello Tod, this seems to be a good idea. I will look for an app for my iPhone. I think there will be something available. Thank you for the tip. Kai
  7. Good point :-) Could save lot's of work. Thank you!
  8. hello everybody, thank you very much for all these detailed informations. I have to check the odometer first. I never looked at it because we have Kilometers her in Germany and I have to calculate a special distance to see if the odometer works properly e.G. I have to look for a 16km distance and then I could look if the odometer shows 10 miles. If this is the case I think I would better look for some place the can repair the magnet stuff. I neither have the tools nor the experiences and I think it only could get worse.
  9. This could explain a lot. I go and have a look. Thank you Jim
  10. Hello Robert, I installed a new speedometer cable and this works fine. Also on top of the speedometer is a little hole for greasing. I cleaned this well and spend some oil, but it still shows less speed. As my understanding is right, the speedometer, transfers the rpm of the cable in a electric signal that is shown. So the only idea I have is, that the parts which transfers the signal works not properly and I would like to know, if I could throw it into the trash or there is a possbilty to adjust it.
  11. Hmmm.... ok... perhaps I should spend an evening under the car first and then pull out all the stuff if neccessary. Thanks a lot Kai
  12. Hi, this sounds reasonable. I think I'm going to do this in the next weeks. I heard that there are companies they can reline clutch discs. If they can't do it I have to look in the US if anyone is going to ship. Thanks for your help Kai
  13. Hello Everybody, I have another riddle on my Dodge. The speedometer seems to show 30% off. If I'm driving 50 mph it only shows 35. Does anybody know if there's a possibility to adjust it? Thank you in advance Kai
  14. Hello Everybody, here we go. I adjusted the rod so free play is now 1". The result is, that first and reverse still grind. I hope I understand right because I think after the 1" free play I hit the first over-center spring, then I'm able to press the pedal about 4" and then I feel the resistance of the clutch. Then, there's not much space left. I only could imagine, that I do not have enough way to really seperate the clutch. What do you think? Kai
  15. Hello greg hello p15, I tried the trick with shifting into second first but it still happens. Don send me a detailed information how to adjust the rod and I hope to solve the problem with that. As I see, the free play is to small. Thanks a lot Kai
  16. Hello Don, thank you very much for that detailed information. This really helps a lot. I'm out on a trade fair and try to solve this problem on Monday. I let you know if this works as soon as possible. This is really a very good explanation. Thank you very much. Kai
  17. Hello Don, hello Niel, when I step on the clutch, there's a resistance quite at the beginning, then nothing happens and then about 3" before I hit the floor.
  18. Hello greg g, this seems to be a missunderstanding. I just said, that the gears are grinding in first and reverse, but not in second and third. So I thought maybe the 3-Speed-Transmission hast synchronizer sleeves for first and reverse which are worn out, but this seems to be wrong. I now will propably check the clutch. Mike: Thank you, that's why I had a short night :-) Just get good tips to my problem and can't stop reading and writing.
  19. Hello Dan, thank you :-) It's interesting how many people have been to Germany before. I was in the states in 93 when I was at university. I took all the money I had, flew to Ft. Lauderdale, drove by Greyhound to Phoenix, bought a quite originale pale green 58 Oldmobile 88, dove to LA, then along Route 66 to Chicago and down to Ft. Lauderdale. Then I shipped the car to Germany and financed the trip with the money I got. That was the best trip I ever made. I always wanted to do it again, but I don't have the time :-( That's annyoing. Made first experinces here and it's great get a lot of tipps and tricks I never found in shop manuals, because my transmission won't do as it should. Great platform...
  20. Hello Niel hello Don, no, I never tried shifting when the car is in motion. The grinding is when the car stands still, just engine is running. When it's cold and it turns a little bit faster e. g. with choke it's the same as when it's hot with about 450 RPM. What about the idea, that the clutch does not work properly? Is that possible? Perhaps I should check adjustment...
  21. GlennCraven: Yes I saw that on some pictures, but the highlander style was more subtle as in you car, not covering everything with a material that is so scratchy you could clean pans with it. I really can imagine why they didn't drive that car so long. I think California or Texas are very hot and you can't sit on that stuff with short pants ;-) casper50: Seems that this topic will switch into a worst case scenario of interior car design. We should collect all the stuff and create a helloween interior. You were in Germany at the right time. I lived near the border and when the wall came down it was incredible. Come back and let's have a ride to Munich :-)
  22. hendo0601: Thank you! Yes it's always great to have a friend who knows when it's time to have a rest :-)
  23. casper50: Please go to youtube and search for "Vecona Vintage". There might be only one car video with that tag. Perhaps it doesn't work with all browsers when the video is embedet here
  24. :-) Thank you. I promise to do my best not to make it worse :-)
  25. Hi everybody, I just want to say hello. It's great to have a platform like this. I bought my 1942 Dodge D22 Custom Coupe one and a half year ago in Texas and brought it to Germany. It was last licensed in California 1957. 1973 the last owner wanted to restore it and insatlled a ne interior, new tires and gave it a paint job, but as I know, it was most of the time kept in a garage. There wasn't much to do to get it back on the street. I just installed a new wiring harness, new brake cylinders and tires and some little things and enjoyed the first summer. This winter I will get a look at the transmission and engine, and perhaps I try to fix the interior, because the 70s style fabric is really creepy ;-) Here's a little video of the car and the "restoration" Have fun: Kai
