  1. As stated above NEG. to NEG. and POS. to POS. and have someone with you to disconnect quickly or be real fast about it yourself. One other note you can do this without disconnecting the 12V battery but make sure you don't have the 12V car running and have accessories and ignition switch off.
  2. Possibly someone dropped the oil pan and disconnected the rods. I'd drop the pan and take a look.
  3. Don't forget to check the water jacket tube!
  4. One other thing to help you determine TDC on compression you could remove your valve cover and confirm both valves are closed or if you have an extra hand, put a thumb over the spark plug hole as you bring it to the top to verify compression. Then proceed as mentioned above. Stuck open valves can cause low or no compression along with broken rings, burnt valves, holes in piston or valve timing being wrong.
  5. I don't know George but have heard lots of good things about him. I hope that his knowledge of these old flatheads and the overdrive trannys is well documented before we lose him. God bless and I hope he lives to be at least a hundred or more.
  6. Did you drain all the fuel out of engine block and change the oil? If not, please do. If so, then you might put about a tablespoon of oil in each spark plug hole and turn over a few times then reinstall plugs. Sometimes the cylinders get washed down with gasoline and the compression is lowered enough that it will not start.
  7. Here's a place to start for free. www.allpar.com in the search block type in mopar flathead six and it should help with history and some cutaway views.
  8. Tod, If it is wrong, yes I would like to move it but if not then no need unless you think it may get more exposure and possibly more suggestions. I also took a look at your website and it has a bunch of information that I will read as I get the chance. Thanks, Mark
  9. So, is my post about "Fitting A '35 Chrysler 6 Into A '34 Dodge" in the correct forum when I put it in the Technical Forum? If it is in the wrong forum how do I move it? Thanks, Mark
  10. Well, I have a '48 Plymouth Deluxe Business Coupe, two '34 Dodges one is a Business Coupe and the other is a 2 Door Sedan, a '66 Plymouth Valiant V200 4 Door and I work on all of them from time to time. The '66 and '48 are drivers and the '34 Dodges are in need of lots of work just to get them to driver status. Like I said in my intro "I've been around old cars all my life" and I'm over 50 now. It's just something I can't and don't want to get away from. I was born this way and prefer to die this way so yeah I'm hooked. Welcome Mark. Next is give us a little history. Whadda ya have or what are you working on?
  11. Hello All, I just registered yesterday and started a new topic in the Tech Forum before I introduced myself. Sorry about that, sometimes I get the cart in front of the horse. Anyway I've been around old cars all my life as my dad was on old car nut. I guess that's where I get it. I hope to learn some things and maybe I can share some of my experiences along the way. Later, Mark Brisbin (A.K.A. Silverdome)
  12. I know the '35 Chrysler 6 motor is longer so what am I in for as far as fitting it into my '34 Dodge which originally came with a 6? I don't want to change the body position or butcher the firewall and I want to keep the hood on it and use the radiator, hood ornament and grille shell assembly. Then there is also the issue with the clutch housing and transmission differences. What will I run into there? Will I be able to use the Dodge transmission and clutch housing on the Chrysler if need be?
