Doe's anyone know if the Snap up gas cap # 1302472 will fit on a 47 P-15. I think this is a Mopar original equipment. Thanks for any help. MW

Yea, guy's, that is what I am conserened about, getting in to a long drawn out mess with some rebuilder. I think good used wheels will be the way to go for now. Maybe someday someone will make the rims repoduction. MW

Doe's anyone know of a outlet that makes reproduction rims for Plymouth 16 inch rims? All 5 of mine were bent at the tire shop. I got them as straight as possiable, but they still have about 1/8" wobble in them. I am conserned about bearing damage. M Wade

Just wondering if their were any Mopar owners in my area. Western Oklahoma dosen't really have any large metropalition areas, we do have many small size town's located through out Western Oklahoma. This said, it makes it rather difficult to meet owners of P-15 cars. Most of our area towns have their yearly car shows, and this is a good place to meet owners. But I still don't run onto many Plymouth owners. Asking this question on the forum will even narrow the margin. But I will give it a try, so any of you people who have P-15's please let me know. I would like to have a spare fuel pump for my 47 Plymouth. Can the fuel pump be purchased at a local auto parts store, say like Napa? If so doe's anyone have parts numbers or brand they prefer? Thanks for anyone's help on this. Maurice

I had one of the girls on my dash, she danced on that dash for so long that her skirt finally wore out and fell off her body. Then my wife made me get rid of her:(

Steve, where did you purchase your HEI? MW

Like I said before with the new tires on the car, it has no vibration at any speed, and the car turns like it has power steering. I thought with the radials the turning would be a little harder but it is not. I to like the looks of the original tire, but I also like the safety, and reliability of the radial tire. It's kind of like riding a motorcycle with worn out tires. One cannot keep from worrying about blowing one out. I would hate to try and keep a car in control with a blowout on bias tires. Yea, my next project is to find me a manual tire changer, and do the work myself. MW

Yea, they did try the machine, and had no success in mounting the tire.

I just wanted to alert everyone about the experience I had at my local tire shop. I ordered five Goodyear Eagles, P205 70 R 16" tires. I ordered one tire, had it put on my spare just to see how it fit. No problems with tire size, so I went ahead and ordered the remaining four. I made an appointment to have the tires put on. I was able to watch the work being done, and I thought everything was going great until it was time to balance the tires. The tires would not balance. I walked over to the machine to look at the tire and rim. I noticed the center ring on the rim was bent. I told the manager the air operated tire changer was the problem. He first did not agree with me, he thought about it for a second, and yelled to the tire jockey to stop mounting the rest of my tires. They had already mounted four tires, and all rims were bent. I thought the situation over, and said the only thing we could do is get out the big hammer. We were successful in straighting out the wheels so they would balance. My suggestion is to find a person with a manual tire changer that will not bend the rims as the powerful air and hydraulic ones do. I thought if I watched the tires being put on I could save myself the grief of something bad happening, but it did anyway. By the way I cannot believe how the car handles now that I have the radials. The car even turnes much easier. No darting all over the road when hitting a groove or bump in the road. MW:)

I am running all radials at the same time. I have always herd it is ok to run radials and bias at the same time as long as they are in pairs, but I also remember their was something wrong with running radials and bias together. Something like they don't track properly. Anyway, I would just save my money, as I did, and purchase all tires at same time. Yea, I had a new aluminum mag that a tire "boy" removed the tire without removing the weight from the wheel, needless to say it damaged the wheel. Wall Mart did buy me a new one... M

I just purchased 5 - 205 70 R 16" for my 47. The Goodyear store let me order one just to try it on my car to see how it fit. I put the tire on and I really could not tell the difference on height when looking at the car with one stock bias on one side and the radial on the other side. I also measured the distance in height on each side, I could only see maybe a 1/4 to 1/2" difference.. I did use steel valve stems, and they worked great. The brand of tire was a Goodyear Eagle LS 2. The tread on the tire has straight tread on the center of the tire, which helps in the look of the tire. I can't wait to get all tires on the car to experience the better handeling. Hope this helps in your decision making. Let me make a suggestion, and make sure you watch the tires being mounted. The tire jockies treat the old stuff like the new. Maurice

Not sure on the spelling, if you can find this brand, give it a try. This paint covers quite well, and gives a very nice shine. The spray nossle is also different from the other spray paints which makes for easier application.

I just rebuilt my stock carb on my 47. Before the rebuild the car ran, and started great. The enging would start in a couple of seconds, even after sitting for 7-8 days. The reason I rebuilt the carb was fuel leaking from the bottom of the fuel bowl from around the piston rod. Anyway, I rebuilt the carb, everything went well, I reinstalled the carb on the car. Started the car, and took it for a test drive. The car ran great with no problems. I brought the car back to the garage. The car sit for about 6 days before I decided to take it for a drive. I really had to pump the fuel to the carb before the enging started. For some reason the carb seems to be empty of fuel. What could the problem be? I haven't counted the number of times I had to pump the accelator before the car started, but it was several. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Maurice

I must share my battery story. When I was messing with motercycles in the late 60's. I owned a 1945 45" HD. The Harley had no generator on it. I had to keep the battery charged between trips. One of my older shade tree buddies told me to take a 12 volt battery, cut in down the middle, install a screw on top to make a new post for the +and - side. That way I would have a extra battery if one was not enough for the trip. I kind of didn't believe him, but I found a wood saw, and went to work on the battery, sure enough the battery had a double divider plate in the very middle of it, worked great. PS, I wouldn't recommend doing this at home, or anywhere else!

Checking the accuracy of the fuel gauge - the hard way

I had only owned my 47 P-15 for about a week, when on a Saturday my wife called me and said she was out of gas, and could I bring some to her. I asked her where she was at, and then I thought to ask her what car she was in. She said Oh I'm in the Plymouth. She wanted to take the neighbour for a ride. I call it a joy ride. I almost called the police to report my wife stealing my car. I thought again. Maurice -
It's so sad to see any old car go up in flames. These auto's are very hard to replace when lost, stolen, or damaged. It's like loosing a part of yourself when something like this happens. I remember when I was a young lad I used to go by and visit a man who had a 37 Plymouth he kept in a feed store. The car was all original, and very beautiful. I decided one day to stop by to look at the car. The store was burned to the ground, and their was the Plymouth nothing but a rusted hull. Hard to believe. I was as devastated as the owner was. I have full coverage insurance on my P-15. I don't like paying the price for it but it is something I feel I must have. I hope your Buddy is feeling better. M

Well gentlemen, I thank you guy's for all the info and pic's. I am going out to have another look at the radio. I kinda know now what I am supposed to be looking for . Maurice
-
Thanks Frankie, I will not try to take the plug apart. Further inspection, it looks as though someone has installed a replacement speaker. That may be the reason the plug is not connected to the speaker now. Anywhay, from all the helpful feedback, I think it is the capacitors giving me the humming. The problem is I do not have a clue what they look like or where they are located. Maurice
-
Alex, Where are these capacitors located in the radio? Maurice
-
I wonder what this plug's purpose is. Doe's it come apart? Maurice

Last night I removed the radio from the dash, (p-15). I opened the side covers, and to my surprise, the inside of the radio was almost spotless. I cheched to see if all the tubes were tight, and they were. That is as far as I could go. My radio is humming, humming really loud. I can still hear music. I did notice in between the speaker wires and the radio was a small round plastic device. It is dark brown in color, and the wires run through the device. the center of the device is metalic, about 1/16 in diameter. It looks as though it was attached to something. What I don't know?. What is this plastic junction box for? 'Does it come apart? if not one will have to pull the speaker or un solder the wires from the speaker. Could a defective speaker be the cause of the humming? Will any speaker work as a test replacement? Any help is much appreciated. Maurice

I was in Tulsa for the showing of the "time vault Plymouth" . They had a car show, and in the show was a wagon like yours. I just stood their and looked at it, and looked at it, and looked at it. I think the most beautiful part of the whole car is the head lights. Very nice car. Maurice

Hum, I wonder if Obama ever rode in a P-15?
