On my 47 Dodge, I can't seem to turn the heat off from the dash. The knob won't budge. I assume it goes in and out. Traced the connection to the engine, and saw this unit with the wire going into the back. If I unscrew those gizmos where the wire goes thru, will that free up connection? Ed
O.K., guys, got the work done. When my mechanic tried to do the wheel alignment, he noticed the bushings were not good. I had to buy the whole package from Andy Bernbaum to get those critters. Here are some pics of the old parts. I noticed also, that the steering is not so heavy anymore. Ed
Great information, you're right about indexing the filament bulb, turned it around, and got a much better lite. And now I'm going to do that ground wire thing to improve the connection. Those little tips in the socket sounds like it also could be better, where can I buy them? Thanks, guys. Ed
On my 47 Dodge, the left, driver's side tail lite is bright, but the right side, passenger, shows a dim lite. I changed the bulb with a new bulb, cleaned the contacts with a wire brush, and wire brushed around the unit that goes into the fender. Could it be old wiring, but yet the left shows bright. Same wiring, I think, no? I hate to think I have to change the whole wiring from dash to lite. Any ideas? Ed
Checked with my mechanic. Definitely upper control arm bushings, not the kingpins. Ordered the package, and will have it installed in a week. Whew, finally it's over. Ed
Going today to check with my mechanic. Since he did the wheel alignment, and that has to do with camber adjustment, then it must just be the outer bushings.,not the kingpins. Am I right? Anyhow I'll find out later today what he says. Ed
Thanks, guys, for all that info. Guess I'll go get the whole set. Andy Dodge mentioned the king pin bushings, and upper outer bushings. Would those be included in that package deal from Andy Bernbaum? His description says "Upper control arm shaft bushings and pin package: Includes all bushings, shaft and rubber seals to service one complete upper control arm." Ed P.S. Pepe's pizza is great, but I always liked Modern Pizzas When I worked at Marlin Firearms, we used to get them occassionaly for parties.
Had a front wheel alignment done on my 47 Dodge. Mechanic noted that everything on the front is good, except he said, " left and right upper knuckles have play". He said all I need are the bushings. Seems no one sells these, unless it's part of a kit. Andy Bernbaum has the kit for $79.00, but I just need the bushings only. Anyone have an idea where I can just get these? Doing research on internet, On ebay they had a set of bushings, for $25.00, but for 1940 Mopar cars. Ed
The wiring in the trunk is all original for the tail, signal, and brake lites. And Greg's idea sounds like the way I think I will go. Now to find the motorcycle lites that would look good. Pretty expensive on ebay. Ed
I like the idea of putting a lite in that little round reflectors above the tail lite. What kind of unit will fit it there, and how to wire it? Just for the heck of it, I jumped a wire from the center brake lite to the tail lite. Since I don't plan to drive the car at night, I figured why not use that lite for a brake lite. Well, it worked, but the lite was very weak, not bright at all. So, there goes my idea. Ed
Hi, Greg G seems to have a simple solution about outboard lites connected directly to the center trunk lite wire. Do you have a pic of how it looks connected to the bumper? I'm sorry, Plymouth Adams, I can't seem to get a handle on all these wires I have to connect. What is a PO? As you can gather from my response, I'm a little dense in the head. Ed
I think I goofed. Trying to get brake lites on the fenders. Cut into the left and right turn signal wires and spliced into the center trunk lite wire. Nothing good happened. A mess. Plymouthy Adams said I have to go to the lighting switch to do this. Help. Ed
Yes, yes, that's my problem. I wasn't getting the clamp completely over the carb flange. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. And the picture showed exactly what has to be done. Thank you very much. Ed
OK, sounds like I should try that. However, is there anyway to really brighten up that center light? Maybe a stronger bulb? So, where can I get those dual filament scockets and bulbs? Ed
Yes, Maybe, I'm not positioning it properly. Anyhow, since the unit sits on top of the gasket, how does that make it more secure? I would think the gasket should be around the clamp, not on top of it.
Yes, I see that, but, I'm curious as to how the gasket has anything to do with tightening the clamps. Since the cleaner sits on top of it, not around it. I tightened it by hand, and then with a screwdriver to give it more tightening, but to no avail. Maybe I'm not positioning the unit properly? Very frustrating. Ed
I might be doing something wrong. I made a gasket of an old rubber mat. put it on the carb. Put cleaner on, and it still rattled. Where did I go wrong? Ed
