Ok. Finally got that d--- filter out. Shredded it little. So, I also removed all the oil in the canister and cleaned it. Now, when I go to put the five quarts in, do I have to put some of it in the canister? Or just put the whole 5 quarts in the engine. And, by the way, Napa 1010 Gold doesn't fit. The hole is too small. So I'm looking around for one that has a one inch diameter hole. Ed
Under the voltage regulator are two units I can't figure out what they are. I'm waiting for a electrical schematic pamphlet I ordered to identify all these these things. Ed
Hmm, vaporization of mineral oil? So, any oil does that, like Rotella 15w/40? Anyhow, I finally got that d--- filter out of the housing. Used a screwdriver, and shredded it a little. Since pieces of it probably in the oil that was in the canister, I took all the oil out and cleaned the inside. Now, when I go to add the five quarts of new oil, do I have to put any of it in the canister, or just put the five quarts in the engine? Ed
Yep, checked glove compartment. Had a receipt for an oil change, back in June, 2003, mileage at that time 93,949. With his name and address on it, I wrote him a letter asking for any information he can give me on the car. Waiting for response. (Hope he didn't die). Doesn't seem to have any excessive wear around the pedals. Ed
Is there anyway to tell if the odometer reading on an old car, like my 47 Dodge, has gone passed the 100,000 mark. Mine reads, 94,577. Could it really be 194,577? Curious. Ed
Thanks, guys, Just wanted to make sure I can pull that rubber hose off the connection on the carb, and cap it. Don't need that washer stuff, since I'm just going to use car in good weather only. Ed
I tried to open driver's side butterly hood, but it won't open. Looking at it from the other side, the front latch releases, but the rear one is stuck. And it looks a rail fell down, aslo. Tried to knock it over with a long crowbar, no luck. Ed
Hi folks, How do you change the oil filter on a 47 Dodge. I took the top off the unit, and it looks like you pull it up with that ring? Well, it won't budge. Help. Ed
Yes, that's what I'm thinking. So, I want to connect a battery tender, I should connect the red clamp of tender to positive pole, and black clamp to engine block somewhere. And, yes, the previous owner did say that an earlier owner did some engine work, but he didn't know exactly what kind. Curious as to how you would know that the engine color indicated a rebuilt. To me those old flathead engine all look the same with that worn out rusty appearance. Thanks for the info, Ed
Hi, again, Is this a window washer unit? It says "Renault" on it. and I notice tubes going to a washer nozZle on windshield, and to inside floor. Anyhow, it clutters up the engine compartment, and I want to take it out. However, I noticed one of the tubes coming off the carburator. Can I pull it off, and how would I close the opening? Thanks, Edv
O.K. Went out to check the ammeter. With ignition off, stepped on brake, ammeter moved very slightly to the left. When starting, and running in idle, ammeter moved way over to the right. Haven't checked the coil connections yet. Ed
Looking at my 47 Dodge engine compartment, I see the 6volt battery is hooked up like this: A cable is connected from the positive pole to the starter. The other cable is connected from the negative pole to a bolt on the engine. Is this right? Ed
I'm jumping to the technical forum, after I told everyone about me buying a 47 Dodge sedan for $5,000. Now I'm starting to look at everything underneath the hood and dash, etc. Well, I's a 6 volt, positive ground, right? So, exactly how should the battery cables be connected? I'm looking down at the battery and see that a cable is connected to the positive pole to the voltage regulater and starter. The negative pole on the battery has the cable from it to a bolt on the engine. Is this right? Ed
The bead chain is supposedly connected somehow to throttle linkage. (cruise control) I haven't fully inspected yet as to how it is done. But the guy I bought the car says he never engaged it, and not to worry, He says the previous owner hooked it up. Weird. Good point about the fluid drive not holding the car when engine off. Will definitely use hand brake. Looking at the paint job, I'm wondering if it's original. It's the same color in the engine compartment, and door jams. Is there a website that lists the colors for that year Dodge? And exactly what is model name of car. I see no lettering anywhere on body, like custom deluxe. But on the rear glass quarter panes, there is lettering that reads "limited edition". Thanks again, guys, for your input. Ed
Thanks, guys, No, there's no problem with the fluid drive. Can see no leaks under car. Just wondering, after all these years, if the fluid should be changed. But, then again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Ed
