I whipped up this stand for my spare trany. It's really simple, just 2 pieces (each side) of 2X2X 1/4" angle iron welded at 90 degrees & a couple of holes. Keeps it off the ground, moveable & easy to work on if you put it up on a bench. Hope you like it.
I just finished this today. I'll run this one once I finish the truck. My father in law supplied the wood & I can't remember the name of it. I may do some final polishing to give the wood a bit more sheen.
I've had my bike in raw steel for a few years now & in my opinion no matter what you choose it's maintenance. Where you live & the method you choose to hold back the rust determines how much.
The threads on mine (4 speed) are 3/8-24 (Fine). I just used a self locking nut to fasten it. That way I could clock it where I thought it looked best. Could have probably threaded it, but the existing hole was about 3/8" square so the corners would have been left unthreaded & I'm not sure that would be strong enough. Although, If you got a handle off of a smaller bottle It may have a smaller hole & wouldn't have that problem.

I'd say you are only limited to your imagination. This is what I made for now. It's a valve handle from an oxygen cylinder. All I had to to was drill out the center to 3/8" & push in the bottle cap. I'm also working on one that will be made of exotic wood whith a polished brass base for when my truck is finished. That one will be real nice.
If anyone else is using a custom shift knob it would be cool to post them here.

49D,
Can you enlighten us on why you say the door is from a 3/4 ton? I'm still new to these trucks as well & I can't see anything that gives it away.
Thanks,
Bryan
Bradley, that sounds like something I would do; & I just may, at least till I get to that part of the project.
Thanks for the info on the cardboard/paper guys.

I have no idea. They really just put the grille in with nothing at all behind it? I assume my truck had a radio, as it does have a speaker. The radio was either removed for some reason & never replaced or it was stolen. I got curious after looking at the '49 I posted yesterday. It is just like mine; hole in the dash with no radio but a speaker on the other side.
Bryan
So I've read numerous times that the radio was a rare option. So my question is; if trucks without a radio came with a radio delete plate (in place of the radio), then what was installed in place of the speaker? I've not seen one photo on the forum of anyone's truck having anything but a speaker in the dash.
Thanks,
Bryan
Last night while searching through old threads, I stumbled upon another member's blog in which he had posted the current value of a pilot house according to the NADA guide. The price listed for a truck in fair condition was right around the price of this truck. So he's not as far off as I thought. I've always been fascinated by the differences in the value of vehicles depending on where you live.

O-K Dave, I'll bite. Why? Off the topic of this thread, but I gotta know. From that picture I don't see the texture that's typical from a roller.
Bryan
You do have a good point Dennis. Around here though you'd need a Ford or Chevy to get that price; & it's already been reduced. We're a big car town but I think most people here are in to whats "popular"; like high dollar street rods & '57 Chevy's, & definitely not flat head 6 cylinders. Which drives me even more to get my truck on the road & drive it absolutely everywhere.
