  1. I hear you.. body working tools are somewhat reasonably priced, it's when you buy the blades, discs, bits and such that you have secure a 2nd house mtg to get them.
  2. Cleaning and clearing the interior , front, rear, and limo fold down seats, carpeting and upholstery trim removed. Finally got a real look at the extent of replacement/repair needed. No real surprises. Lol, the front seat weighs as much as a house sofa, and the fold down limo seats aren't much lighter.
  3. Welcome aboard,nice auto
  4. Looks great, looks comfortable, great job, thanks for sharing.
  5. Finally a few steps forward, got all the chrome trim removed, old windows out, and today got the trunk lid, many thanks to joe. Also have removed all the old upholstery and carpets. Replenishing my tool box so the real work can begin.
  6. Thanks, hope it will come together. Have been looking around for the rear end area,no luck as yet but still hoping to go that way.
  7. Thanks, appreciate all the info I can get. I have projects of similar complexity and degree. Fortunately I have done auto body repair in the past, in fact worker in a body repair shop years ago. Of course back then had full access to a lot more tools and equipment. Have also done residential and auto upholstery. Have to admit looking forward to the interior work more than the exterior.
  8. I have asked myself the same questions, for sure. And I really do understand and appreciate where you are coming from. The challenges here are many to say the least and I probably have not considered or even recognized some. And the truth be told, at 74 yo, I may never even get to drive it , or even ride in the car,but my family will. The mechanical, body repair, and upholstery challenges are many ,but we are up to the tasks and the looking forward the rewards.
  9. I agree, I have seen and used this paper/ cardboard tack strip in upholstery work I gave done, really works very well and very versatile material.
  10. Also want to give a shout out to Joe, was able to get a trunk lid and bottom latch from him. Great guy, trying to figure out a way to send him some warm, sunny Florida weather to repay him,LOL. It is good to have our members come to our rescue.
  11. No sentimental value as far as it being in the family previously. It will become such as my two grandsons and I are going to do our best to restore. We all enjoy working on cars, and know the time and effort spent together restoring, to us ,will be more meaningful than if spent fishing, or hunting, or setting in a sports stadium or in front of a TV set. We do realize the amount of time, and money, and probable frustration it can cost, but it will be worth every bit of it. Family, quality family time and the memories we make together on this project are priceless.
  12. Want the thank all that responded to my request for help in finding a trunk lid for my Dodge project. A lot of information and possible sources was offered and appreciated. Especially want to thank joecoozie. He has been working with me for several says now and a bright light can be seen at the end of the tunnel. Thanks to you all, hope I can return the favor one day.

  13. Checked with French Lake,by phone, the only one they have is in worse shape than mine. Thanks for the lead though.
  14. Thanks for the info, will help narrow down the search
  15. Thanks, will check again, thanks. Checked earlier but didn't have one.
  16. Thanks, will check again, thanks. Checked earlier but didn't have one.
  17. I need photos/pics of 1947 Dodge Custom trunk area, below the trunk lid is totally gone, and thus far unable to fine a replacement panel. The area I need to built from scratch extends all the way across from fender to fender, houses the body ( not the lid) locking mechanism. Some pics showing the profile and straight on surface, interior and exterior would be extremely helpful. Family and a trunk lid, but shipping charges over $300.00, guess I will be rebuilding the lid. Any sources/pics would be very helpful. Thanks.
  18. Auto City Classic,Inc. prices were very competitive. New glass to replace those broke in shipment is being replace quickly without any Hassel at all.
  19. Ordered and received new glass for front and rear doors and vent wings on Friday evening. Glass for both rear doors was broke, all others ok. The company sent new replacements today. Is great to have a company stand behind their promises and warranty. Slowly replenishing the auto body work tools I need, just hope I can retrieve the skills I once had but haven't used in ecades, lol. Let the work begin.
  20. Sure hope I can get mine back to looking that good.
  21. Wow, what a project, thanks for sharing. Truly inspirational for those of us crazy enough or determined enough to try to restore these beauties. Will wait yo see if my efforts are a labor of love or "bull-headedness".
  22. Wow,thanks for the info,really appreciate it
  23. I can attest to the longer wheelbase. She occupied almost all of the trailer used to haul it home. I double checked the serial number and she is one of the 3698, seven passenger models made between 1946 and 1948, made at the Briggs plant. Sure hope I can do her justice in the restoration. Gonna take a lot of " working with what I have" as another member stated. Not finding a lot of sources for sheet metal parts yet, hopefully will get better.
