  1. Joe, Good luck with it. I imagine that the glow from the resulting smile on your face after it starts will help melt some of this snow. Jim Yergin
  2. Just talked to the machinist. The rod journal for the busted cylinder will not clean up at .050 under. He will have to weld up the journal and re-cut it and the other rod journals to .030 under. Jim Yergin
  3. Joe, Glad to here you were able to fix it. However, I wish you would stop trying to do work on your car in the driveway. It seems that lately every time you do it snows. I am sick and tired of the stuff. Jim Yergin
  4. Joe, If there is one on the generator you have from me, please feel free to take it off and use it. Jim Yergin
  5. I am using 15" wheels on my '41 with four wheel disk brakes. No problem clearing the calipers. The wheels are from a later P-15. Jim Yergin
  6. You also have the option of installing rear disk brakes. AAJ Brakes sells kits for both front and rear. Jim Yergin
  7. Tod Fitch has an article in the current Skinned Knuckles on repairing the temperature gauge. Nice work Tod. Congratulations. Jim Yergin
  8. I have them on my '41 (slightly different from the '46-'48 ones). Found the passenger side one at Hershey for $25. Bought the driver's side from Jay Fisher for a lot more than that but exceptional quality. Driver's side is useful, the passenger is just for show. Jim Yergin
  9. Rodney, As far as I know the piston did not hit the head, it just came a part because of a defect. I ordered a replacement connecting rod from VPW this morning. Fortunately I do not have to deal with having the rod bearings babbitted, Chrysler used insert bearings on the engine. My arrangement with my machinist is a little unusual. He actually works in a shop up in western Maryland where he spends the week. He comes home to Virginia on weekends so I drop off and pick up parts on the weekends. Hope you are doing OK with the snow. Jim Yergin
  10. Good question. Jim Yergin
  11. Neil, No dents. Jim Yergin
  12. Joe, But isn't it frustrating having the time off from work but not being able to work on the car in the driveway? Jim Yergin
  13. Ed, For sure I won't go down that road. BTW, isn't the 10 day ban about over? Actually, the car just stopped running. No big noise. Jim Yergin
  14. Latest from the machinist is that the connecting rod in the busted cylinder is bent and has to be replaced. Jim Yergin
  15. Very, very nice. Congratulations. Jim Yergin
  16. The original '41 transmission in my car did not have a fitting for a back-up light switch but my '53 overdrive trans does. I am using it with this light on my car. Jim Yergin
  17. Joe, Out here in Warrenton, they sell kerosene at convenience stores that also sell gasoline. They have pumps dedicated to kerosene. Jim Yergin
  18. I guess that's why the air filter decal goes on the side of the base rather than the lid. Jim Yergin
  19. Thanks Bob. Jim Yergin
  20. There is a car under there some where. Jim Yergin
  21. Got the sleeve and new piston from Vintage Power Wagons. Now I have to wait for the roads to be plowed to get it to the machinist. Jim Yergin
  22. 30 inches of snow and no electricity from 6 AM to 10:30 AM. You just gotta love winter. To think one of the reasons I relocated from New England to Virginia was to avoid all of this. Joe and Rodney, I take it you have not had any power outages? Jim Yergin
  23. Rodney, Congratulations. Do you think all the snow they are predicting for later today will be melted by the 14th? Jim Yergin
  24. Bob, I am not a fan of winter and the forecast for this weekend certainly doesn't help. Jim Yergin
  25. I believe the guy with the weather balloons/lawn chair was an unusual Darwin Award winner in that he survived. I think the general rule is that the award is given posthumously. Jim Yergin
