  2. According to the master parts book on Chet's site, Joe is correct. Green is heavy duty, red is light duty and plain is standard duty. The same parts are listed for all years 1936-1948. Jim Yergin
  3. Greg, In checking my carb, I can see the small hole in the base you refer to. However, I do not see a corresponding hole or slot in the manifold. Should there be one or is the vacuum created solely from the space left open in the gasket? Jim Yergin

  6. Joe, I think you said that your amp meter showed neither a charge nor a discharge. A faulty generator might explain a lack of charge but wouldn't the amp meter still show a discharge when you hooked up the headlight? Jim Yergin

  8. I have a '41 Plymouth wagon. For my top I used sail canvas I found at a sailmaker's supply store. It was the only material I could find wide enough to fit. I installed it using canvas pliers that artists use to mount canvas to a frame. I got the pliers at an art supply store. First I installed a muslin underlayment and then the canvas. Once installed I painted the canvas with fabric paint in a color that was close to what I found in a color ad from 1941. I then applied a waterproofing sealer for canvas that I found at a boat supply store. So far it has worked well for me. Here is a picture of my car. Jim Yergin

  13. I have a vintage 6 volt Sun tachometer in my car. I found it on eBay. It uses a transmitter that is mounted in my engine compartment. You just have to find a 6 cylinder, 6 volt transmitter because they also were made for 8 cylinders and also 12 volts. Jim Yergin

  15. I think the numbers may be different because the convertible dashes were painted body color while all the others were wood-grained. I believe the dashes will interchange. Will be interested to hear what you find out. Jim Yergin

  19. Thank you very much for the information. Through the BESTgasket web site I found and ordered a neoprene replacement seal. I was hoping to make it to the second annual car show at my son's high school this Saturday. The first one was a lot of fun. While I hate having to wait even longer to get the car back on the road, for sure I do not want to have to take the engine out again to repair a leaky rear main seal. Jim Yergin
  20. Joe, I will be interested in what you find. I have the same problem with mine. The idle adjustment screw is back all the way and not even touching. I tried but could not find a vacuum leak with the propane technique. Jim Yergin
  21. I am reassembling my engine. It uses the rope type rear main oil seal. I could not find the replacement neoprene seals. I purchased the FelPro rope seal that is supposed to be for my block (a P23 block). The instructions say to press the rope into the groove and then cut the ends off even with the block and the sides of the cap. The pieces of rope seal that were in my set are not long enough to reach much less have any extra to cut off. I would say they are about 1/4 inch short on both ends of coming level with the block. Do I have a problem? Jim Yergin
  22. Re-sleeving may be the best way to go. The actual wheel cylinders for '42's may be hard to find and/or very expensive since they seem to be the same as used in '41 not the more common ones used on the P15. The part nos appear to be: Right Front: 857156 Left Front: 857157 Right Rear: 857160 Left Rear: 857161 Collector's Auto Supply (http://www.collectorsautosupply.com/search/index.htm) shows listings for all of them except the left front one but very expensive ($190@). Len Dawson does not have them. Jim Yergin
