Well said knuckle, Good set of Doug Thorley headers are something like $700,- for mopar applications. They are top of the line = expencive and still the pay per hour is nothing. Ofcourse those are mass produced but still. I have made couple sets for my different race cars earlier, and those are a bit more time consuming. Limited space is not the problem always, but you have to end up in specific primary length with each tube, they have to protrude into collector in certain order to create swirl, etc. Then one really starts to smoke the cigars and THINK:D

Today I built the exhaust for both sides, made it out of 2" pipe and one glasspack type seethrough muffler per each side. Kinda interesting to hear the sound if I ever see the day this puppy runs. I was lazy and didn't bother to make a crossover pipe. (H) just straight runs and over the rear axle all the way back, mufflers just before the axle. I would have wanted them to be after the rear, but no room

What ceramic paint is doable in home Fred? I always thought they need a big oven for frying, but please share whats available in Europe. Plan is to wrap the critical areas, but not all the way. I finished the welds in a homemade Jig, trying to avoid the flange to warp from heat. It worked and all it needs now is some hitemp paint? Maybe not the prettiest, but works and is at least unique:p

There's lurking the collector mocked up in place, where it's possible to go ahead with exhaust itself. All the time one has to think that it'll be removable, and not blocking any critical accesses, pedals, linkage lines etc. At this point it was clear that I'm forced to go with 2-1 design with cylinders 1 and 3, there really was not room for three tubes. Well since this is not a performance oriented project, it's fine. Rear tube needed to be raised over the steering And voila here you have a perfectly sitting custom header for modern Mopar magnum engines in a D-24 application.

Here's one for Frankie, not that much room between the fender, starter, clutch linkage and steering... Enough challenge I admit, but hey guys "Tight" is my middle name:D The second shot is clear, it shows you my headers. And by the third pic I already felt like surgeon

Today I made the right side header, quite easy fix compared what the other will be. Just some grinding from here and there and I was able to slide the header in place from below the frame. Tight fit it is but I gotta live with that. Tomorrow it's time to figure out the left header, it'll be a puzzle

Sure I did, but the sad fact is that the guys behind the counter are not that anxious to lookup. No real customer service trying to find parts if one can't tell himself by the model and year = pops out from their screen in 5 sec. Ofcourse I could order correct freezeplugs for example from southern Finland U.S cars spezialised shops, but most of the time I get half the price overseas, even with shipping etc. Especially stuff that does not weight a ton. Like yesterday I went in to buy spark plugs for my V6. I had part numbers ready from NGK, Denso and Bosch. It turned out that their numbering was different (US/Europe), and since none of the cars imported in Finland by stealership came with this 3.9 magnum engine, they told me plugs have to be ordered. They were not able to interchange none of those numbers. Fair enough I told the guy that ok I'll take then 6 pieces of '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2L spark plugs. Problem solved he found them immediately, and yes it is the same candle... This weeks pricing examples: Clutch kit, local quotations were $700,- or $350,- with 2 months waiting time. I got it from States $230,- shipped to my door. O2 sensor, local quotation $196,- for OEM, I ordered from States $70,- shipped to my door.

I selected my new engine color to be silver, matches nicely with black. I'm glad I inspected the freezeplugs before painting 'em over. They usually get rusty from inside, and yup one at least was so thin that a snap with a screwdriver created a hole. So I'll change those. Not a biggie but you guys can give it a wild guess are they found locally or do I have to order... Yesterday I already ordered new clutch package from states, and an OEM O2 sensor, sometimes it's really frustrating when all the bits and pieces have to be ordered, I do not like this waiting game. Oh, also new MSD coil is on it's way somewhere. At least it gives me time to create the exhaust and clutch linkage. or do you think there's something weird with this header?

GREG you made me fell down with the chair, what a master imitation of that sound!!! Absolutely in awe here, my stomach hurts of laughing, dang. That brought back memories from mid 70's when my friends dad took us into ice-hockey trainings with a Wartburg wagon. All my gear always smelled more twostroke than sweat...

At least that engine is named right. To me personally it's more important factor that this beauty will get back into road than whats the transplant nature. MoPar gods will curse you but hey, I'm sure it will be as much fun driving with that engine. It's cool you build this with your own head instead of reaching for acceptance from the public, that's the way sir. There really is life beyond A-pford and flatheads and hemi's. And if the puritans have a hard day to accept that, so be it. You are doing great job there, keep it up and us posted. Now it's time for me to hit the garage and paint my V6 nice, so it'll look more pristine when I put her in my D-24. -
Have you guys seen any of these on the Highway lately? You'd regognize it by the smell, it's two stroke

It could be, that they still have the moldings and press tools for a bit more modern tanks (50's-60's), but not older. Or the market is just way bigger for more familiar ones so it makes sence to fabricate new tools with all the details attached, and still make some profit with higher volume sales? A tank can only cost so much, so for fifteen sold pieces worldwide nobodys going to invest in tooling...

If my memory serves right that was for sale couple months ago somewhere. Priced skyhigh. After seeing all these Frankies pics I'm glad I decided not to chop my car. That was after dozen of measurements and demo drawings with computer, I ended up into not doing it. These 3w coupes flow just allright even without pancake tops.

Prime example when too much is just too much. Looks like a lot is done, and even in decent quality work, but there just isn't any idea behind. Ugly. I wonder if those pinkster pics are from Germany?
